General Transportation Tech I: Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: construction, maintenance, and/or material and process inspection; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. General Transportation Tech II: Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and/or material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor. General Transportation Tech III: Performs highly complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: contract maintenance and/or material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; operates light and heavy equipment; preventative and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations; and training other employees. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:The essential duties for the General Transportation Tech I include:Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.Move/picks up litter and roadway debris.Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.Operates light equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a quarter cubic yards or less, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.Performs preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment and completes various required reports including time-keeping, equipment forms, inventory, accident forms, and PMI.Maintaining a safe working relationship.Follow verbal and written instructions.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Additional duties for General Transportation Tech II include:The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures.Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes.Using of light and heavy highway equipment.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned. Additional duties for General Transportation Tech III include:Methods, procedures, equipment and materials used in inter-modal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work.Materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance.Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes.Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
