Avanti Home Health Attendant Care Worker in Hurley, Michigan

An Attendant Care Worker provides assistance with activities of daily living (ADL's) including such things as; assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transferring, eating, and ambulation necessary to maintain the recipient in his/her place of residence within the community.

Training / Certification: Experience and training in the above tasks is preferred. No specific certifications are required.

Requirements:

  • Provide personal care and household services essential to health care at home.
  • Physical demands include moderate to heavy lifting and physical pulling, activity moving up to 100 Ibs.
  • Ability to bend, push, pull, and climb stairs.
  • Must be able to lead a visually impaired person through surroundings unfamiliar to both the client and Attendant worker.
  • Must be able to respond to a call for help, telephone, fire alarm, etc.
  • Must promote a positive public image by demonstrating good communication skills and appearance.
  • Must work well with a team, and be able to handle crisis situations.
  • Must have a sympathetic attitude toward care for the sick and infirm.
  • Must have the maturity to maintain confidentiality, and the ability to deal effectively with the demands of the job.

Reporting: The Attendant reports directly to the Home Services Coordinator. In their absence, the Attendant will report to the R.N. Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Must be trained for each of the above tasks. Previous experience in the provision of personal care is preferred.
  • Current driver's license with valid car insurance and clean driving record.
  • Background free from conviction of any crime which directly relates to the occupation of providing personal care or other health care services.
  • Positive past employment / personal references.
  • Must be an individual who presents a caring, empathetic attitude toward the physically, mentally, or developmentally disabled individuals, including the elderly and infirm.
  • Ability to read, write, and carry out assigned tasks.

Duties:

  • Perform tasks assigned by Supervisor.
  • Report to Supervisor any changes in the participant's condition.

Specific Tasks (may include):

  1. Assistance with bathing, oral care (teeth, mouth, dentures), and hair care.
  2. Assistance with getting in/out of bed and/or chair.
  3. Assistance with dressing/undressing.
  4. Assistance with mobility and ambulation (cane, walker, crutches, wheelchair).
  5. Assist with transfer from bed/chair to chair/wheelchair, and reverse.
  6. Change the client's bed linens, laundering the bed linens and personal clothing.
  7. Skin care, excluding wound care.
  8. Care of eyeglasses and hearing aids.
  9. Toileting, including; use and care of bedpan, urinal, commode, or toilet.
  10. Household chores (vacuum, dust, mop floors, clean bathroom).
  11. Meal prep and clean up.
  12. Additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Documentation / Records: Must complete visit reporting through mobile GPS app or telephony, accompanied by a written Daily Activity Log.
