Lockheed Martin Software Engineer, SR - GMD Weapons System (GWS) in Huntsville, Alabama

Ground Missile Defense (GMD) is the heart of the Missile Defense System and a key element of our nation’s defense against ballistic missile attacks.

The GMD Weapon System processes data from multiple sensors to identify and characterize the inbound ballistic missile threat, plans the best defensive solution, and launches the intercepting missiles to negate the threat.

The Work

The selected Software Engineer, SR will be responsible for software development and support of the GMD Fire Control (GFC) suite of products within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon System (GWS) program in Huntsville, AL.

The Software Engineer, SR :

• Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.

• Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design and development of product software.

• Ensures software standards are met.

• Support advanced portions of the lifecycle of software development to include requirements definition, integration, and deployment.

• Prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results with minimal oversight and direction.

• Must already have an Interim or Active Secret Clearance.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM related field, and 5 years of related experience, or a Master’s degree with 3 years of related experience, 0 years with a PhD

• Must already have an Interim or Active Secret Clearance

• Experience with solving highly mathematical and physics based complex problems

• Experience analyzing and implementing optimization algorithms

• Recent demonstration of Ada or C++ Software development experience

• Recent MATLAB and Python Experience

• Unix/Linux Operating System Experience

• Able to read and interpret Modeling and Simulation

• Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment

Desired Skills:

• Experience with solving highly mathematical and physics based complex problems involving developing fire control solutions

• Highly experienced with Linux, scripting, and operations

• Prior experience with Missile Defense Agency (MDA)

programs and/or systems

• Experience with automated software requirements testing and analysis

• Experience with Software Containerization and Orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm Charts, Docker)

• Experience using Agile Project management tools (Jira/Confluence)

• Experience with DevSecOps tools and methods (Jenkins, Ansible, Git/Gitlab) and continuous integration/continuous delivery and deployment (CI/CD) automation

Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
