We are currently hiring a Senior Leader for our Production Department at our manufacturing plant in Huntsville, AL. This is a night shift position typically working Monday - Friday, 10:30 PM - 7 AM. The Senior Leader is responsible for leading a team of 4 direct reports and 65 indirect reports. The Senior Leader is a thought leader, a facilitator and a master problem solver and can trouble shoot systems and equipment. Leading these processes and strategies ensure that we are achieving conformance and producing quality product that meets our customer requirements and ATI goals and objectives.

The Senior Leader is responsible for coordinating the operations of rod and wire production flow. The Senior Leader will lead, motivate, train, and supervise operations employees to continuously improve all aspects of the operation using Lean Manufacturing concepts. You will also be the point of contact for Production Front Line Leaders, oversee shop DMB Boards, be responsible for the safety engagement action items and life threat programs. To accomplish these tasks, the Senior Leader will work cooperatively with other departments, particularly Maintenance, Safety, and Process Engineering and outside vendors. This position will report to the Sr. Manager.

To become successful and provide immediate impact, you will have to quickly learn ATI, the rod and wire, and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including a diverse workforce, engineering, quality, and safety. The Senior Leader will have exceptional people skills, communicate well and be able to drive Level II DMB processes. Attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, a continuous improvement mindset, the ability to act quickly and make impactful decisions, and exceptional interpersonal skills are included in the skillset of a successful Senior Leader.

  • Apply leadership skills and Lean Manufacturing principles to guide and train both peers and subordinates in Lean Manufacturing based continuous improvement.

  • Achieve department safety, on time delivery, cycle time, replenishment time, and first pass acceptance goals.

  • Eliminate wastes through standardization, best practices, line stops, and verbatim compliance.

  • Establish productivity standards and measurement systems to continuously monitor processes and evaluate results for areas of improvement.

  • Establish a culture of diverse thought, accountability, and teamwork.

  • Ensure strict adherence to both internal and external customer requirements.

  • Evaluate the performance of production supervisors and assist in planning for performance improvement.

  • Resolve production, equipment, and systems problems; assist in the revision of work instructions; and assist and ensure that adequate training of personnel is conducted and maintained.

  • Ensure that appropriate training of personnel is conducted and maintained.

  • Provide employee counseling and participate in conflict resolution as needed.

  • Oversee safety programs to raise employee awareness, conduct routine safety audits to assure compliance, develop procedures to minimize safety hazards, recognize and correct unsafe conditions and acts, and investigate incidents.

  • Ensure that work instructions and production instructions are current.

Basic Qualifications

  • A four-year degree in Business, Mechanical, Industrial, or Metallurgical Engineering.

  • In lieu of a degree, at least 5 years of formal supervisory experience in a manufacturing, production or heavy industrial environment.

Additional knowledge, skills and abilities include:

  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, discipline, and drive for continuous improvement in an industrial production environment.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Proficiency of Microsoft Office Software Suite particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  • Experience with LEAN manufacturing practices and continuous improvement concepts desired.

  • Ability to plan, assign and monitor work, motivate and coach staff.
