BAE Systems Model Based Systems Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama

Job Description

BAE Systems is seeking a skilled Model Based Engineer to join our Analysis, Testing & Development Future Vertical Lift (FVL) team supporting the US Army's PEO Aviation/FVL Cross Functional Team in the Huntsville area under BAE Systems IDS Business unit of the Intelligence & Security (I&S) Sector. This effort supports analyses, testing, digital engineering, and development to improve Reliability, Maintainability, Quality, Supportability, and Interoperability (RMQSI) for weapons systems while evaluating new technologies for potential implementation and transitioning and employing Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) within the Enduring and FVL Aviation portfolio.

The objective of this PEO Aviation/FVL Program is to perform analyses, testing, engineering, and development to increase and improve Reliability, Maintainability, Quality, Supportability, and Interoperability (RMQSI) for weapons systems while evaluating new technologies for potential implementation within the Enduring and FVL Aviation portfolio ofprograms and responsibilities including support for annual technology demonstrations including Project Convergence (PC), Experimental Demonstration Gateway Events (EDGE), and other named experimentation and demonstration events. The FVL CFT and PEO AVN focus consists of identifying new technology capabilities in the critical technology areas of trusted Artificial Intelligence (AI) and autonomy, integrated network system-of-systems, and integrated sensing and cyber that can be fielded aligning to the policies for Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) on the following items:

Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA)

Future Attack and Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA)

Air Launched Effects (ALE) and Ground Launched Effects (GLE)

Future Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems (FTUAS)

Scalable Control Interface (SCI)

PEO AVN Enduring Fleet (e.g., UH-60M/V, AH-64D/E, CH-47F, and Fixed Wing)

Long Range Precision Munition (LRPM)

Other systems defined by emerging requirements from the FVL CFT

BAE Systems primary role in this endeavor is to develop the Digital Ecosystem integrating and orchestrating each of the various disparate Digital Threads which is encompassed by the FVL CFT and PEO Aviation.

Job Description:

This position will support sponsored research which applies digital engineering (DE) methodologies to produce airworthy (DO-178), modular open systems approach (MOSA) enabled avionics solutions across a wide a variety of defense programs related to Air Ground Networking Radio (AGNR), Blue Force Tracking (BFT), Future Vertical Lift (FVL), Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), and the Aviation Mission Computing Environment (AMCE).As a Modeling and Simulation Systems Engineer, for the FVL Digital Thread and FVL Digital Ecosystem backbone Future Vertical Lift (FVL) you will be responsible for information discovery system definition and design, interface management, technical trades, performance budgets, requirements management, and requirements-based validation and verification.

Additionally, the qualified candidate will develop and execute novel system model-based approaches to define, design, analyze, and document system development. Be able to apply MBSE tool suites to enable the use of model-based best practices in DoD acquisition and system life cycle support. The qualified candidate will support stakeholders and sponsors in the application of MBSE to tradespace analysis, design, and acquisition and executes SE and MBSE processes including system definition, functional decomposition, requirements development, architectural development and analysis, design synthesis, system analysis, data modeling and architecture development, and test program development.

Additional tasks include:

  • Conduct product or system design synthesis translating requirements into physical architectures for systems of high complexity. Define/refine internal and external interfaces.

  • Develop technical reports and diagrams detailing product or system attributes.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor s degree with a focus in digital engineering, model based systems engineering, or a related field of study.

  • 2-4 years of related, proven experience in technical management overseeing complex, multi-team projects of similar scale as the proposed effort.

  • Direct experience with digital engineering for the development and test and integration of aviation weapon systems.

  • Proven experience participating in teams to develop new and existing products, solutions, and processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to think and plan strategically while executing tactically.

  • Experience in a large, complex multifaceted system and system of systems engineering, testing & integration environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively present complex information to leaders with diverse backgrounds.

  • Communicates effectively and accurately convey status and identify, assess, and communicate risks.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to express technical ideas

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Experience with Digital Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering.

  • Experience analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate or improve existing systems.

  • Experience ensuring developed systems comply with the enterprise technical architecture.

  • Good verbal and written communication.

  • Experience working Government/Military programs.

  • Working knowledge of Military Aircraft avionic development and requirements analysis.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Experience with a focus in Avionics Engineering, Digital Systems Engineering, Model Based Systems Engineering, or a related STEM field of study

  • 2 years of related, proven experience in systems engineering or solutions architecture overseeing complex, multi-team efforts of similar scale as the Contractor s proposed effort.

  • Industry certifications.

  • Direct experience with a background in Army Aviation for both Fixed-wing and vertical lift aircraft to include the development of avionic systems and requirements analysis.

  • Working knowledge of military aircraft avionic systems testing or training.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • An active Top Secret US Security Clearance with SCI.

  • Experience with US Army or related military experience.

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $68700 - $116800

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
