Honeywell Business Development Lead in Huntsville, Alabama

Use your knowledge of customers, the industry and competition to identify and pursue opportunities for growth for Honeywell's Aerospace business. You will develop strategies to gain new customers in current markets and identify ways to penetrate new markets and channels. You will influence and partner with other Honeywell business leaders, marketing, sales, product development and various functions to define a long-term roadmap for reaching and securing new customers. You will build strategic customer relationships, identify potential mergers or acquisitions, joint ventures, and other strategic alliances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead AT’s Research Technology Centers to win external technology development funding aligned to our roadmaps and technology procurement plans.

  • Understand the technology funding market and new technology trends, uncover non-obvious opportunities and customers for Honeywell to provide value through new technologies, and help provide technology differentiation for future Honeywell products.

  • Lead regular engagement with government organizations, universities, and OEMs. Investigate, recommend, and facilitate the formation of strong relationships with strategic customers.

  • Work with RTCs, GBEs, and other internal organizations to formulate effective business development strategies for external technology funding.

  • Lead Advanced Technology to help shape customer requirements and objectives for future R&D opportunities. Ensure Honeywell has sufficient insight to prepare for upcoming opportunities before requests for proposals, BAAs etc. are posted.

  • Manage the pursuit process from initial concept and customer engagement through to contract award. Lead Honeywell to develop customer presentations, white papers, and proposals.

  • Lead an effective business development MOS for sections within the RTC, and drive prioritization of business opportunities and available internal resources.


  • Minimum 10 years professional engineering

  • Minimum 5 years in Technology Development through TRL6

  • Demonstrated success at cultivating low TRL funded programs

  • Must have or be eligible for a security clearance due to contractual requirements.


  • PhD or Masters Degree in a technical field

  • 10 years of professional engineering/science-related experience with demonstrated competency in advanced engineering and/or research, and leading engineering/research technology development teams and programs.

  • Proven capability to cultivate and capture advanced technology funding in electronic system technologies from or within science and technology customer agencies such as DARPA, AFRL, ONR, MDA, NASA, or FAA.

  • Advanced degree in an engineering or science-related discipline.

  • Experience in electronic systems, communications, RF sensors, in the aerospace industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence business leaders, drive technical improvements, and influence change in the engineering and technology environment.

  • Strong judgment and decision-making abilities.

  • Demonstrated product/systems vision and experience driving a focused team with the ability to inspire innovation.

  • Effective written, verbal and listening skills at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong and active professional network of relationships at government science & technology agencies, universities, national labs, and private sector research organizations.

  • Ability to articulate strategies in clear, concise, and decisive manner
