Summary The incumbent serves as a medicine service PA working to provide the full range of Oncology/Hematology provider services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the VA mission. The Oncology/Hematology Physician Assistant (PA) provides advanced clinical practice, consultation, and management of an assigned panel of patients with Oncology/Hematology disease in the outpatient clinic setting. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties may include but not limited to: Coordinate and supervise the delivery of outpatient care for Oncology/Hematology patients including patient evaluation; treatment including biopsies, order appropriate medications, schedule follow-up as needed, appropriate referrals as needed. Serve as primary Oncology/Hematology provider for an independent panel of clinic patients after an initial training period. Perform new patient Oncology/Hematology consultation and return Oncology/Hematology visits and telephone follow up visits and collaborate with Oncology/Hematology staff. Establish a comprehensive plan of care based on clinical findings and standards of care. Establish mutual goals with patient/family. Prescribe medications based on patients' status, accepted scientific guidelines, prescriptive authority, and ongoing evaluation of therapies. Lead and direct others in Oncology/Hematology to assure access to and continuity of care across the VA continuum, between referral bases, and transitioning from inpatient/observation status toward outpatient follow-up care. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including but not limited to biopsies, laboratory tests, and appropriate radiology studies. Serves as a tele-presenter and coordinate care with supervising oncologist. Complete inpatient hematology-oncology consultation in conjunction with supervising oncologist who works remotely. Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) Authorized: This position is eligible for EDRP, a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of your start date. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant AND Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) AND Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Grade Determinations: Recency and Quality of Experience. Recency or quality of training and experience as a PA should be carefully reviewed when determining the appropriate grade. To be creditable, experience must demonstrate possession of knowledge, skills and abilities related to the current practice of a PA. The importance of specific types of experience or training may vary per the intended assignment. Grades. The level of PA practice may be performed based on a combination of education and experience. Beyond the minimum education requirements, grade determination upon appointment, and advancement is dependent more on acquired knowledge, skills, and abilities than baseline education. As the PA acquires the knowledge and judgment that accrues with experience, the privilege of increased authority for patient care maybe expanded. Research. At any grade, PAs may assist in or conduct approved research projects relative to PA care that enhances their knowledge and skills in the profession.
