At our Fortune 1000 diversified energy company, you’ll find a friendly, community-minded environment, with flexible work schedules, opportunities for growth and development, and competitive pay and benefits.New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), a subsidiary of New Jersey Resources is seeking a Safety Coordinator to provide safety oversight and expertise to implement, communicate and coordinate the safety and loss prevention program within NJR and affiliated entities. Ensure and motivate NJR staff to adhere to company, state, federal and other regulatory agencies environmental health and safety policies and regulations. Train on and support the corporate safety and health programs and objectives and conduct internal S&H and OSHA compliant safety audits and defensive driver trainings within NJNG and affiliated entities.Major Responsibilities:Work with the Health and Safety Manager to develop corporate health and safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations to minimize accidents and injuries.Develop and conduct safety training classes, including OSHA mandatory safety training on all applicable regulations, defensive driving training program and other programs as needed; coordinate with training staff and management to continually improve and revise the Company Safety Program.Provide fleet and driver safety management to prevent and reduce collisions by way of driver training, accident investigations, reviewing applicability of technology and policies to enhance driver safety.Provide defensive driver training and instruction for new drivers on larger vehicles and trailers.Conduct company safety audits to ensure compliance to OSHA regulations and implement changes to address immediate and long-term safety concerns.Provide safety program support to PMT, Gas Control, Distribution, Field Services, and other departments to assure the presence of a safe and reliable workplace.Review new and proposed safety regulations to determine their potential impact on the company and implement changes to assure compliance. Remain knowledgeable of various safety codes and regulations including U.S. Dept. of Transportation Pipeline Safety Standards, Occupational Safety & Health Administration Standards, National Fire Protection Codes and NJ Worker’s Compensation Law.Evaluate new and additional safety equipment including personal protective equipment, confined space equipment, excavation safety gear, vehicle gear and other specialized tools and equipment to minimize risks and losses; serve as expert on operation of all safety equipment.Lead investigations of various local and regulatory inspectors including OSHA and corporate insurance carriers; review all injuries including on site investigations, collection of data, interviews, and report findings. Ensure any deficiencies are resolved in a timely manner.Investigate accidents/incidents involving NJR vehicles; report to accident sites as required; and develops and submits accident reports to the safety manager and department management. Perform root cause analysis on all claim investigations.Provide OSHA compliant and NJNG specific safety training in a classroom setting as well as hands on and behind the wheel driver training.Act as a primary advisor to committees created with key individuals to assess safety concerns and needs in the field.Participate in various special projects and studies.Position Specifications:Associates degree or formalized training in OSHA or related fieldA minimum of 4 years of experience in safety and/or workers comp and motor vehicle accident claims or the combined equivalent of education and experience.Well versed with OSHA and DOT inspection processes.Experience with regulatory agencies, utilities, and work zone or construction site preferred.Recognized safety certification from the Board of Certified Safety Processional (BCSP) or equivalent and/ or driver training certifications desired.Respiratory protection use experience, fit testing and training a must.Able to handle multiple tasks and work well under pressure to meet deadlines.Comfortable in a fast-paced work environment with the ability to work well under pressure in a deadline driven environment with constant re-prioritization of duties.Able to maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality regarding company information.Must have strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to assess, coach and mentor drivers.Experience in the natural gas industry, regulatory compliance desired.Must be willing and able to be on call 24/7 and able to work on weekends and/or holidays, when necessary to respond to emergency situations.Advanced computer skills including proficiency in MS Office to create training program material.Working knowledge of AV equipment.Able to complete a DOT physical; prior CDL license is a plus.Routine field work, with up to 40% of time in the field and/or traveling.Travel will be required mainly between our Atlantic Highlands and Northern Division service territories as well as all other NJNG territories, as required.* The above job description is reflective of the primary duties of this position and in no way limits the supervisor from assigning any other duties, responsibilities or initiatives as deemed necessary.New Jersey Resources is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
