Description:

Manages a portfolio of UH startups, typically early-stage technologies within 0-5 years after discovery in an academic lab. Coordinates internal seed grant programs and acts as the interface with other UH startup related activities. Evaluates and analyzes market potential for startups and conducts business plan reviews. Manages the tracking of the university's startup portfolio including acquisitions and initial public offerings.

  1. Manages the portfolio of UH research related startups.
  2. Facilitates the Chancellor's Technology Bridging Fund, a $2m 5-year seed grant program to help faculty commercialize emerging technology.
  3. Identifies UH technologies and inventors who may be good candidates for a startup.
  4. Coordinates with the Wolff Center for Entrepreneurship, Red Labs, and other UH startup activities.
  5. May be responsible for setting goals for the startup portfolio within the overall OTTI strategy.
  6. Leads the negotiation of new and amended startup related licenses and options.
  7. May manage support staff, such as licensing associates/assistants, administrative support, and/or interns.
  8. Performs other job-related duties as required.

MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job related experience.
