Senior Financial Analyst

Description

The Senior Financial Analyst is primarily responsible for financial analysis, modeling, forecasting, reporting and process improvement. Responsible for driving campus-wide financial planning, financial management and budget development by analyzing, reporting, and reconciling financial and operational results. Drives process improvement, provides expert counsel, communicates data effectively and facilitates financial analysis training contributing to operational and strategic success.

Duties:

  • Develops complex ad-hoc financial analyses of business and operations to include but not limited to forecasting, variance reporting, profit and loss and scenario planning.

  • Develops and maintains complex financial analyses and models to guide and support leadership in long-term planning and strategic decision making.

  • Monitors and analyzes key financial performance metrics and trends for the institution.

  • Evaluates financial processes and reporting continuously to identify and implement changes to drive efficiency and accuracy improvements.

  • Develops queries, tools, and aids to support business administration in the budgeting and reporting processes.

  • Develops and maintains multi-year financial proformas for debt service, academic programs, and auxiliary units.

  • Oversees monthly processes for analyzing and updating operating budgets.

  • Designs and delivers training in financial analytics and financial reporting to business support staff.

  • Designs reports and presentations as as requested and performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or closely related degree.

  2. Minimum five years of work experience involving financial analysis, budgeting, or modeling.

  3. Knowledge of fund budgeting, financial reporting process, and financial reporting standards.

  4. Knowledge of state and federal policies, statutes, and laws in higher education finance and budget.

  5. Knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and budget administration.

  6. Advanced skills in Excel, Tableau or Power BI and other financial software applications.

  7. Advanced skills in financial modeling, planning, and analysis.

  8. Skills in building queries from tables and/or writing SQL.

  9. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative team.

  10. Ability to analyze and solve complex problems as well as to translate data and communicate effectively.

  11. Skills in process engineering and/or process improvement.

Desired:

Master's degree.

Directly related experience in higher education.
