Vertex Aerospace Safety Officer in Houston, Texas

V2X is growing! V2X is looking for a Safety Officer to join our team!

Position Overview: Seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to actively promote and maintain a safe working environment by conducting regular inspections, implementing safety training programs, investigating incidents, and ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations (OSHA, NASA, etc.) and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety Inspections and Audits:

  • Conduct routine safety inspections of work areas, equipment, and facilities to identify potential hazards and non-compliance issues.

  • Assist with the Lockout Tagout, Fall Prevention, Confined Space and, Hazardous Chemical Inventory Programs; maintain all other elements of VPP requirements.

  • Coordinate, plan, and implement the actions and recommendations by an internal Safety Committee; provide technical assistance and advice to the Committee.

  • Prepare monthly safety reports/metrics; maintain proper documentation to conform with contract and record-keeping requirements of OSHA and VPP.

  • Document findings and generate detailed safety reports outlining corrective actions required.

  • Utilize safety reports and metrics to perform trend analysis and present to management.

  • Assist System Safety Engineer with the development of Hazard Analysis (i.e. JHAs, HAs, FMEAs as well as any other hazard analysis tool).

  • Develop Job Hazard Analysis; working with SME’s in area/task as needed

  • Follow up on corrective actions to ensure timely completion.

  • Maintain safety supplies stack and reorder when necessary.

  • Submit recommendations to the S&MA Manager for Safety improvements or innovations to increase the safety of the facility and/or personnel.

Safety Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, including new hire orientation, refresher courses, and specific job-related safety training.

  • Assist in maintaining training records and ensure compliance with mandatory training requirements.

  • Prepare and conduct safety awareness campaigns such as monthly Safety Day which will promote a culture of safety within the workplace.

  • Incident Investigation and Reporting:

  • Promptly investigate all workplace mishaps, close calls, good catches, and safety incidents.

  • Gather necessary information, interview witnesses, and analyze root causes of incidents.

  • Prepare detailed incident reports, identify corrective actions, and implement preventive measures to mitigate future risks.

Compliance Management:

  • Stay updated on all applicable safety regulations (OSHA, local, state) and ensure company practices align with standards.

  • Monitor and enforce compliance with safety policies and procedures.

  • Conduct regular safety compliance audits to identify areas for improvement.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Participate in the development and maintenance of emergency response plans.

  • Conduct emergency drills and training exercises to ensure employee readiness.

  • Coordinate with relevant authorities during emergency situations. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and interact with employees at all levels

  • Ability to conduct thorough investigations and prepare detailed reports

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety-related software

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and climb stairs for extended periods.

  • Ability to lift and carry moderate weights when necessary.

  • Must be able to work in various environments, including outdoors and in potentially hazardous conditions Exposure to dust, chemicals, inadequate lighting, and workspace restrictions may occur.

Work Environment:

  • The position may require work in conditions with varying air temperatures and noise.

Reporting Structure:

  • Reports to the S&MA Manager.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or diving setting.

  • Experience with government contracts.

  • Conducting research, analyzing data, and developing recommendations.

  • Operating modern office equipment.

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, customers, and the public sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to effectively prioritize time to support business safety objectives. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Desired Qualifications/Skills

  • Certified SCUBA diver

  • Experience leading/managing others on the contract.

Education/Certification Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred.

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other relevant safety certification preferred.

  • Certified SCUBA diver from a recognized national SCUBA organization (i.e., NAUI, PADI, or etc.)
