Houston Methodist Research Technician III in Houston, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

At Houston Methodist, the Research Technician III position is responsible for the performance and evaluation of laboratory determination on clinical research specimens. This position manages and implements all aspects of laboratory service which include: quality control, order and supply and most importantly, platelet function assays, primarily aggregometry. The Research Technician III position compiles, manages and analyzes lab research data, and assista trainees when needed.

SERVICE - 20%

  • Performs aggregometry and sample processing with quality control, logging, monitoring and cataloging data. (EF)

  • Coordinates storing, packaging, shipping and tracking study samples to core labs across North America. (EF)

  • Assumes call for Cardiology Research as necessary. (EF)

  • Assists with implementation and education of department-based safety initiatives and standards of practice. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 20%

  • Maintains logs of shipments including air bills, telephone logs, core lab correspondence analyzing, reviewing and summarizing research protocols. (EF)

  • Takes inventory and maintains lab supply and equipment, ensuring equipment certification and annual maintenance agreements, as well as locating and obtaining urgently needed items and equipment. (EF)

  • Maintains OSHA's standards and regulations, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) laboratory safety and biohazard precautions. (EF)

  • Cleans and decontaminates work area and instruments at least once per shift. (EF)

FINANCE - 20%

  • Self-motivated to independently manage time effectively, minimizing incidental overtime, and prioritizes daily tasks, providing leadership to team members on effective and efficient utilization of time. (EF)

  • Assists department management in product evaluations and utilization of existing products. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 20%

  • Seeks opportunities to expand learning beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continual development. Completes and updates the individual development plan (IDP) on an on-going basis. (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree or two additional years of relative laboratory experience (in addition to the minimum experience requirements listed below) required in lieu of degree

The research institute was created to provide the infrastructure and support for these endeavors, and to house the technology and resources needed to make innovative breakthroughs in important areas of human disease.
