Our greatest asset has been and will continue to be our people.  We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Automation Project Manager within our Oxy Low Carbon Ventures Direct Air Capture (DAC) program function, based in (Houston, TX). 

 

Job Duties:

Program Leadership 

  • Actively participate in the DAC DPO (Digital Program Office) Leadership Team  
  • Lead initiatives as directed by DAC DPO Management 
  • Participate in strategy and planning sessions and be recognized as a capable team member who delivers value 
  • Drive alignment of managed initiatives with the initiatives managed by other DPO Leadership members 
  • Aid in recruiting, interviewing, and on-boarding new team members 
  • Track and communicate progress and risks regarding managed activities 
  • Train and mentor team members on approaches and practices for root cause analysis, data analysis, optimization, project issue resolution, and customer communications 

Automation 

  • Ensure automation and operational technology systems are appropriately commissioned, ready for startup, durably supported, and improved as needed to meet operational and functional requirements 
  • Provide leadership and act as program integration lead between field industrial control systems engineering team, operations I&E, and digital program/IT support team  
  • Provide oversight and coordination across the LCV automation efforts, including automation standards adherence, optimization modification projects, OEM supply chain integration with Rockwell, and development and implementation of the automation and optimization strategy 
  • Ensure automation and end device data flow, data integrity processes and operations/maintenance programs are in place to meet CDR system requirements 
  • Lead the development and implementation of automation standards for the LCV/DAC program and optimization initiatives through management of internal and 3rd party resources 
  • Assess and evaluate risk to understand the implications of design decisions and innovative technologies while assuring appropriate mitigations are in place 
  • Proactively identify opportunities for automation and continuous improvements 
  • Keep abreast of industry trends in automation, optimization and DAC program related areas 
  • Ensures that all facilities projects are reviewed and correctly developed with reliability and maintenance effectiveness in mind. 
  • Develops and maintains work processes, programs and procedures for equipment and facility automation reliability. 
  • Recognizes and rewards exceptional performance. 
  • Recommends changes in manpower level (both contract and company). 
  • Champions company policies and initiatives. 
  • Demonstrates commitment to safety, including safety considerations in engineering design, recommendations, and operability.  Applies safety procedures and policies. 
  • Demonstrates ability and desire for effective verbal and written communication within a multidiscipline team environment. 
  • Ability to make technically and economically sound recommendations with incomplete information and within the time required. 

 Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Communicate and influence key stakeholders to support automation and optimization focused programs and initiatives 
  • Engage directly with operations and engineering to participate in design and development of solutions according to functional and performance requirements 
  • Serve as a primary stakeholder contact for all significant issues and escalations relating to automation and optimization solution deployments and procedures, and lead successful resolution supported by all stakeholders 
  • Serve as a primary contact with external partner companies and ensure that collaboration is productive, and value driven 

 

Travel Requirements: 

The percentage of travel required for this position will be 50-100% depending on the need of operations and the phase of particular projects and initiatives. 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Electrical, Mechanical or related engineering discipline required.   
  • Solid knowledge and experience of automation, ideally within the Oil & Gas industry gained for onshore facilities, though this is not essential.  Experience with developing and deployment of automation systems within operating facilities is essential. 
  • Programming development experience using process controls systems including PLC's (programmable logic controller), and HMI (human-machine interface)/SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) software. 
  • Knowledge of P&ID’s, electrical diagrams, conduit design, wiring, and hazardous location requirements 
  • Hands on experience with field start-up, calibration, and troubleshooting experience of instrumentation 
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing reliability and/or engineering professionals and teams focused on instrumentation and automation engineering and facility design, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry. 
  • Good experience in change management and deployment of reliability improvement programs
