Summary
The Project Accountant II will be responsible for various accounting tasks pertaining to their assigned project. Tasks include collecting, computing, classifying, recording, and verifying material billing data used for customer billing and maintaining project-related records. The Project Accountant II must have the ability to perform moderately complex day-to-day accounting duties, use sound judgement to make decisions, resolve issues, and have an advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. (GAAP) Because this role may require occasional mentoring and coaching of the Project Accountant I, strong communication skills are desired. Flexibility is a must as this position will require traveling to different job sites.
Key Responsibilities
Assimilates data from multiple sources to account for resources used on job.
Reviews documentation from other personnel, clients, purchase orders, cost reports, and third-party auditors.
Maintains files on jobs/customers ensuring completeness and accuracy. Identifies and reconciles invoices and records, resolves discrepancies.
Communicates with project personnel and auditors. Resolves audit issues, exercises good judgement and discretion when determining corrective course of action.
Analyzes trends and recommends process improvement.
Data collection & entry according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Produces specialized reporting according to customer needs.
Review labor hours submitted by field personnel pertaining to project tasks, identifying and addressing any inconsistencies
Conduct thorough examinations of all project expenditures to ensure precise billing and cost estimates
Iinvestigates project variances
Compile project information
Perform data collection and data entry
Maintain cash flow consistency
Report to management on opportunities for additional billings or cost savings
Travel as needed
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent from an accredited college or university, or in place of a degree, 4+ additional years of relative accounting experience
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of relative accounting experience
Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft excel
Ability to analyze information, develop ad hoc spreadsheet reports and verify information.
Strong communication skills
Advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. (GAAP)
Must be detail oriented
Can use sound judgement in making decisions
