We have an exciting opportunity for an Orbital Debris Radar Science Analyst Temporary to join our team with JETS II Teammate company, McLaurin Aerospace.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 12 weeks.

This position will work on the JETS-II Orbital Debris Radar Team providing support in the analysis of radar detections of orbiting space debris. NASA uses debris data collected by both the Haystack Ultrawideband Satellite Imaging Radar (HUSIR) and Goldstone Orbital Debris Radar to detect orbiting space debris. This temporary role will help contribute to NASA's on-going efforts to interpret and use radar detection data of orbiting debris, which is a key source of information for the models and publications NASA releases to the world for use by space agencies and the public to understand how the debris environment is evolving, predict risk to space-based resources and help to limit further debris events in the future.

The position will:

  • Develop charts and analyses in radar data reduction and analysis of detected debris

  • Work closely with JETS-II Orbital Debris Research & Science Operations (ODRSO) colleagues and NASA Orbital Debris Program Office (ODPO) customers

  • Present work products to customers and counterparts (written & verbal)

  • Support and participate in technical interchange meetings

  • Perform other duties as required

Here’s what you’ll need :

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Must be a recent graduate of an ABET accredited science, engineering or engineering technology degree program

  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA

  • Experience in analyzing data and determining trends and uncertainties

  • Self-motivated, team player and adaptability to a dynamic environment and the ability to complete all assignments as required

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and will be expected to effectively interact with customers and management

  • Ability to prepare written documents and to verbally present at various meetings

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision

Requisition Preferences:

  • ​Experience in radar software signal and data processing

  • Experience with orbital mechanics

  • Experience with modern computer languages such as MATLAB, Python, C/C or Fortran

  • Experience with MATLAB Antenna Toolbox

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
