Superior Completion Services is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer – Packers / Completion Tools for our Office in Houston, TX.

The Mechanical Design Engineer will work within the Research, Design, New Product Development, and Sustaining Engineering Group and support new product development of API 11D1 qualified packers in our downhole completion tool product lines (including packers, sand control tools, fluid loss valves, interval control valves (ICVs), barrier valves, locks, nipples and/or safety valves). In their role, they will be responsible for the design and qualification testing of new packers and other downhole completion tools products for oil and gas wells to meet our customer’s requirements, as well as the maintenance of existing designs.

The successful candidate will be highly self-motivated, able to work in a quick-paced environment, and will be responsible for Preparing and reviewing engineering documents for prototyping and production; providing support to the Design Engineering Group during prototype testing of equipment; providing technical support for manufacturing and operations; and troubleshooting failed equipment or processes. The ideal candidate will have design experience developing packers and other downhole completion tools to meet industry standards such as API 11D1, API 19V, API 19ICV, API 19AC, etc

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate layouts and detailed engineering calculations for new and modified equipment designs.

  • Actively participate in development design reviews and make “best choice” recommendations.

  • Ensure that manufacturing drawings are consistent with the working layouts for product designs.

  • Lead the assembly and lab testing of prototypes for product qualification.

  • Draft documentation of new products.

  • Provide technical assistance to manufacturing, assembly, and operation personnel.

  • Review machine drawings and advise on manufacturability.

  • Initiate, check, and approve change notices, test requests, and write test reports.

  • Disposition of rejected parts.

  • Work with minimum supervision

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Experience/knowledge in the design of Packers and other downhole completion Oil and Gas Tools.

  • Experience in new product development.

  • Experience working with API 11D1 specification is required.

  • Experience working with other API and ISO specifications beneficial (API 19V, API 19ICV, API 19AC, etc.)

  • 3D modeling skills are required; working knowledge of AutoDesk Inventor is preferred.

  • Ability to work “hands-on” in a test lab and/or manufacturing facility.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Excellent written and spoken communication, efficiency, and time management skills are required.

Education:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Engineering Technology is required. (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar preferred)
