UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON Manager, Help Desk - 493351 in Houston, Texas

Description:

Manages Help Desk operations for the university, including remote sites; provides technical support to the university community on multiple computer operating systems and associated hardware, software, and networks.

  1. Manages the daily operations of the Help Desk, including supervision of staff and student workers.

  2. Analyzes and resolves complex and security sensitive problems; provides technical guidance to Help Desk personnel.

  3. Develops and maintains current technical documentation, guidelines, and procedures; monitors compliance with policies and procedures.

  4. Monitors service request systems to ensure accountability of the services provided by the Help Desk.

  5. Analyzes resource requests for validity, and determines whether current resources are available; responds to user's requests.

  6. Coordinates and oversees the implementation, installation, and support of system hardware, software, security, and networks.

  7. Maintains the university's computer hardware and software inventory, including projections for future operational needs.

  8. Manages support for student technology issues, and identifies methods to enhance service efficiency and utilization; evaluates and recommends current and emerging technologies for implementation.

  9. Provides workshops and training to university community.

  10. Assists the User Services Administrator with long-range strategic planning and goals.

  11. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Broad technical knowledge of the university's automated hardware and software systems

  2. Managerial skills necessary to manage Help Desk and supervise staff and student workers

  3. Excellent analytical skills to analyze and diagnose technical problems on PCs and related hardware

  4. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of university employees

  5. Excellent organizational skills to effectively utilize staff and resources

  6. Excellent written communication skills and ability to compose correspondence and reports

  7. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  8. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and act upon decisions within scope of delegated authority

PC Skills:

  1. Proficiency with the several automated software and hardware systems

  2. Proficiency with PC software applications in a Windows environment

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and (3) years related experience or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
