Job Description:

Discover will not sponsor or transfer employment work visas for this position. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Works on holistic engineering deliverables across different stages of the product lifecycle and determines technology patterns for the overall solution. Actively manages and escalates risk and customer-impacting issues within the day-to-day role to management.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies System tuning and optimization through annual benchmark testing by identifying capacity threshold adjustments, and platform resource assignment

  • Develops benchmarking capabilities and reports for production capacity

  • Develops performance and capacity reporting for all PULSE BT applications and systems

  • Utilizes various capacity and performance management tools

  • Utilizes various testing solutions in pre-production environments

  • Determines current utilization and capacity of systems supporting PULSE business

  • Monitors systems daily performance to identify trends, and issues related to capacity gaps, and results of planned changes.

  • Ensures systems builds and client implementations meet PULSE standards for resiliency and reliability

  • Helps identify, manage, and escalate risks

  • Assists with performing capacity modeling and capacity management across all PULSE BT applications and systems

  • Forecasts future demand for these systems as a result of client transaction volume growth

  • Identifies gaps in system applications and infrastructure due to the forecasted demand, system resiliency, and client implementations

  • Works with PULSE Operations and Implementations teams, application owners, and Infrastructure support teams to develop plans to remediate those gaps

  • Monitors the results of those remediation plans

  • Initiates capacity upgrades with appropriate lead times to ensure forecasted increases can be handled by all systems supporting PULSE business

  • Provides monthly reports on systems health and availability

  • Achieves product commitments (and influences others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills and contributes to or led technology communities.

  • Uses automation, system tools, open source solutions, observability and 'security first' principles in daily work

  • Contributes to team agile ceremonies, leads demos and presentations, helps new engineers learn established norms

  • Initiates high level solution design approaches, and guides team to achieve desired key software delivery capabilities using automated, coded enterprise and observability

  • Participates in internal speaking and advocacy events.

  • Supports research activities to adopt new technology solutions in ways of developing new capabilities

  • Continues professional education and create opportunities for core product teams to learn engineering best practices

  • Coaches immediate chapter and is actively fosters the adoption of new technologies

Minimum Qualifications

Here’s what we need from you:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Informatics, Information Security, Information Technology, or related

  • 3+ years of experience in (Software) Engineering, DevOps or related

  • Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale

  • Experience on Payments and Electronic Fund Transfer

Preferred Qualifications

If we had our say, we’d also look for:

  • Past experience in capacity planning and infrastructure scaling.

  • Working knowledge of performance simulators – Selenium, Cucumber, JMeter, Paragon, PayHuddle

  • Skilled on multiple technology streams and high adaptable to changing technology landscape

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
