We have an exciting opportunity for an Gateway HALO Spacecraft Software Engineer to join our team with the Engineering division.

The Gateway HALO Spacecraft Software Engineer will:

  • Software Management and Oversight

  • Software release planning and estimation

  • Software testing and verification

  • Review lower-level software testing and verification

  • Software Process Assessments (including Compliance assessments) across the full development life cycle

  • Perform software product assessment for completeness of design and implementation throughout the full software development lifecycle

  • Ensure NASA requirements are satisfied by design solutions and support production/control board meetings, design and system reviews

  • Support the development of CDR and manufacturing readiness review products and participate in module system reviews

  • Interface with NASA and spacecraft system engineering teams

  • Subsystem Software insight and oversight

  • Provide engineering insight and oversight support for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) prime contractor on assigned subsystem or subsystems.

  • Coordinate with the Gateway Subsystem Management team on programmatic requirement change requests, design review support, interface definition and control, verification integration, and provide status on high level development progress and issues

  • Monitor system integration, interface management and coordination

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, and coordination skills

  • Maintain a professional relationship with the NASA customer and other NASA support contractors

  • Work in a fast-paced, Agile environment

  • Perform other duties as requested or required by management

Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent certification in a related area and normally possess 10 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

  • Candidate must meet a majority of these technical requirements

  • Experience with the development of space systems requirements documents including functional requirements and verification success criteria

  • Experience in risk assessment and implementation of risk reducing measures

  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle of NPR 7150.2 human rated space software systems

  • Experience reviewing software products and documentation, including from NASA’s typical design review milestones, for technical insight and risk evaluation

  • Experience in a multi-provider software environment

  • Familiarity with certification of flight readiness activities

  • Experience assisting coordination of software integration technical activities to anticipateand prevent problems, optimize requirements, and design solutions

  • Experience with software systems integration with Communications & Tracking systems (i.e. communication protocols, general design of antenna software for space-to-earth and/or space-asset-to space-asset communication)

  • Experience working with avionics counterparts for resolving integration and design issues related to software implementation of network protocols and general

  • Comfort with software design for crew-facing software features (i.e. displays, crew devices, etc.)

  • Proficiency with team collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams, Webex, Skype, SharePoint, Jira

  • Experience working as part of an Integrated Product Team to develop avionic systems

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and coordination skills and strong customerservice attitude

  • Experience fostering a collaborative team environment

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks in order to meet deadlines and schedules with limited supervision

  • Fostering and working in a collaborative team environment

  • Effectively communicate across a wide range of technical disciplines, with vendors/contractors, direct customers and upper management

  • Ability to prepare written documents/presentations and to verbally present at various meetings

  • Must be willing to work onsite at Johnson Space Center

Requisition Preferences:

  • Knowledge of systems engineering principles and associated documentation

  • Knowledge of commonly used NASA concepts, practices, processes and procedures relating to mechanical and electrical system design, engineering drawings and sketches, material selection, and design software and tools

  • Knowledge of the NASA Gateway Spacecraft systems and software, specifically for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO)

  • Experience with Core Flight System (cFS) Applications (or similar flight software framework)

  • Experience with Time Triggered Ethernet (or similar protocols such as ARINC 664)

  • Experience working as part of an Integrated Product Team to develop avionic systems

  • Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) for Distributed Avionics Architectures

  • Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)

  • Familiarity with:

  • Software project management experience

  • Safety Critical Human-Rated Software Development Processes

  • NASA software and systems development standards (incl NPR 7150.2)

  • NASA/JSC documentation databases as well as typical systems engineering products

  • NASA/JSC engineering processes

  • Object oriented software development

  • Agile software development

  • C/C++ coding

  • Linux

  • Scripting languages such as Python

  • ARINC 664, 653, SAE AS6802 or RTC DO178

  • Data Validation

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements
