DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

The Houston Health Department is actively searching for a skilled individual to perform the following essential functions:

  • Coordinates and directs the development, implementation and monitoring of various financial activities, including grant closing policies and procedures to effectively manage assigned grants.

  • Completes extensive reconciliation of financial reports and SAP data to assist the department with soft closing of grants.

  • Act as a liaison to grant program managers and responds to internal and external auditors on questions or reports related to financial reports.

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly and final financial reports as required by the grantor agency.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals and/or extensive use of a video display terminal.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a field directly related to the type of work being performed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Six (6) years of professional experience in finance, economics, budget analysis or a closely related field.

Substitutions: Experience cannot be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement. A Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of the above experience requirement
