Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IVPerforms highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IIIAnalyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.Coordinates maintenance matters with Area Engineers.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.Oversees construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.Reviews designs and detailed drawings of bridges and related structures prepared by other engineers and technicians.Schedules, assigns and oversees bridge inspection activities.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IVIncludes all essential duties for Transportation Engineer III as well as:Chairs or serves as a member of a contract selection team.Conducts final inspections on completed construction projects.Coordinates and monitors consultant contracts related projects.Acts as consultant to staff engineers to coordinate construction operations.Coordinates with Area Engineers and reviews area office contract submissions.Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
