AVONDALE HOUSE Direct Support - Residential Sunday - Thursday, 11pm - 9am (awake) in HOUSTON, Texas

Avondale House is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit agency that provides, educational services to individuals with autism, a day habilitation program for young adults, whereclients receive training in daily living skills and pre-vocational activities and three residential homes for adults unable to live in their own home. This position will support the Avondale House Residential Program. Avondale House has been serving individuals with autism since 1976. Job Duties:

  • Arrives at work on time each evening, ready to be available to provide back up support to the awake personnel.
  • Receives shift change report by participating in shift change meeting nightly.
  • Waking the residents at the designated time, assisting them in their grooming tasks, implementing a.m. programs as designated on each individual's IEP.
  • Insures the residents start their day by preparing breakfast and are well dressed and groomed.
  • Supervises self-administration of medication programs and recording data on these programs.
  • Periodic bed checks during the shift.
  • Completion of attendance record nightly.
  • Daily correspondence to appropriate persons and proper daily documentation as needed.
  • Participates in monthly house meeting as part of staff development requirements.
  • Attends all in-service training classes as scheduled.
  • Insures completion and entry into Reboot system of daily house documentation, to include but not limited to fire drill reports, daily progress notes, cleaning checklists, incident reports, medication administration, attendance records and other documents as required.
  • Works with staff throughout Avondale House to meet the needs of each client.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of experience working in a residential setting, preferably with individuals with autism or related handicapping conditions.
  • CPR certified.
  • Patient, authoritative personality.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to implement CPI, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, lift, carry.
