POSITION SUMMARY

The Digital and Value Chain Optimization Communications Leader supports the Chief Digital Officer, the Chief Global Optimization Officer, and their respective leadership teams by creating and delivering comprehensive internal and external communications programs that advance the company’s digitally-focused and digitally-enabled business objectives.

As one of the company’s communications leaders, the successful candidate must create well-crafted messaging and compelling content that serves to build and sustain understanding of, alignment and engagement with the company’s digital value proposition, relentless commitment to continuous improvement, and related narratives. This role requires a mix of consulting, influencing, coaching, project management and storytelling skills to create meaningful impact and successfully navigate complex and evolving internal and external business dynamics.

The Digital and Value Chain Optimization Communications Leader will also have responsibility for overseeing IT Communications, including leading and developing the IT Communications Business Partner(s). This role is part of the Communications and Community Relations organization and will report to the leader of the Communications Business Partners team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build and maintain trusted relationships at all levels in the organization to advance the company’s digitally-focused and digitally-enabled business objectives and transformation efforts through delivery of compelling, fit-for-purpose communications programs. This includes providing strategic counsel to executive and senior leaders and other business stakeholders on effective messaging and strategies to engage internal and external stakeholders, with appropriate sensitivity to a range of perspectives.

  • Develop and implement multi-channel communication plans – including messaging, strategies, tactics, sequencing of activities, and measurement approaches/metrics to evaluate effectiveness.

  • Create and deliver executive-level materials – including presentations, video scripts, and content for large employee events (e.g., Town Halls) – that simplify complex, sensitive and business critical topics.

  • Craft and manage communications content (articles, videos, emails, newsletters, etc.) and produce large- and small-scale communications events (e.g., Town Halls, All-Hands, etc.), including writing, editing, guiding creative and/or event design, and facilitating content approval; advise on content placement within appropriate channels.

  • Provide communications guidance and lead communications processes for responding to IT incidents (e.g., service and network outages, etc.),

  • Apply communications best practices, research findings, team learnings and stakeholder insights to continuously improve and enhance communications effectiveness.

  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally with Communications & Community Relations team members and other organizations to ensure consistency, cohesion and compliance, and to mitigate risks.

  • Lead the IT Communications team, including coaching and developing the IT Communications Business Partner(s), as well as contribute to the overall development of the broader Communications team’s collective skills and expertise.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, business or related field required.

  • Ten (10) or more years of communications experience at a large or midsized company or public relations firm, including previous experience leading and delivering high visibility communications initiatives end-to-end.

  • Three (3) or more years of technology, emerging technology, digital workplace, organizational transformation and/or business improvement communications experience strongly preferred.

  • Three (3) or more years of team leadership preferred.

  • Refining/energy or manufacturing industry experience preferred

SKILLS

  • Strong ability to communicate complex topics effectively to all types of employees and leaders, from front-line workers to executives.

  • Advanced knowledge of internal and external communication strategies, techniques and best practices; ability to think strategically and build implementation plans that have a measurable impact.

  • Excellent writing and content development skills, including when under pressure; demonstrated ability to present business plans, concepts, strategies and results succinctly and persuasively.

  • Demonstrated capacity to be highly creative, analytical and data-driven at the same time.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, continuously changing environment with a high-degree of autonomy, accountability and accuracy.

  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build strong relationships and work effectively in a matrixed organization.

  • Adept project manager with outstanding attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities and programs concurrently and with little oversight

  • High curiosity; eager to learn and understand a wide range of energy industry and technology subject matter.
