Houston Methodist Development Research Analyst - Fundraising in Houston, Texas

JOB SUMMARY

At Houston Methodist, the Development Research Analyst is responsible for assisting in implementing and supporting a program of prospect identification and analysis through advanced projects and background work. This position utilizes knowledge of reference tools to accurately weigh the information gathered to recommend strategies for the Foundation's major gift level prospective donors.

The Development Research Analyst creates and customizes a high level, complex prospect research program and reporting for service lines and other higher priority fundraising initiatives. Maintains strong relationships with the Foundation teams and other Houston Methodist staff to support strategies and brings high level expertise and proactivity to his/her work.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

PEOPLE - 20%

  • Maintains positive working relationships with Foundation and Houston Methodist staff, volunteer leadership and vendors while providing events research and briefing materials. (EF)

  • Recommends cultivation strategies for prospective donors to all assigned Development Officers via Proposals Reporting and Portfolio Management. (EF)

SERVICE - 40%

  • Conducts analysis of prospective donor information obtained from sources such as electronic screenings and surveys: Consults diverse, publicly available biographical, financial and other references, including government and legal documents, to evaluate and verify information and estimate donors' philanthropic capacity resulting in data entry into fundraising database (Raiser's Edge).   • Through creative research techniques, provides high-level research on donor constituent using a wide variety of electronic/online, library sources and other external repositories of public information to identify prospects. (EF)

  • Develops fundraising programs via collaboration with Development Officers and executive staff to create and enhance coding system to support reporting. (EF).

  • Coordinates and executes projects related to Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation (HMHF) fundraising initiatives. (EF)

QUALITY/SAFETY - 20%

  • Implements fundraising research techniques, best practices and highly efficient processes that elevate strategic development and optimal performance. (EF)

  • Implements concise, accurate coding management for database integrity. (EF)

FINANCE - 5%

  • Utilizes department resources efficiently. (EF)

GROWTH/INNOVATION - 15%

  • Maintains active awareness of the important news and events related to philanthropy to proactively identify new prospective donors. Assesses and analyzes present and future needs, trends, challenges, and opportunities related to Foundation philanthropic revenue and operations. (EF)

  • Continuously develops fundraising knowledge and professional skills through internal/external training opportunities. (EF)

  • Proactively manages own professional development. Completes Individual Development Plan (IDP) (EF)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors degree required or an additional four years of experience (in addition to the minimum experience requirements listed below) required in lieu of degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Three years experience in the research field.

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles

  • Strong computer skills, including absolute comfort with Internet usage. Experience in word processing, database usage and spreadsheets. Knowledge of on-line search protocols (Nexis, Dialog) and fundraising prospect and gift management software (Raiser's Edge) preferred

  • Ability to successfully manage relationships among all levels of the organization, both internally and externally.

  • Highly motivated and able to work well as a team player is critical; willing to accept responsibility and be held accountable for projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive, fast paced environment with attention to detail and accuracy

  • Strong project management skills and problem-solving skills and ability to work in a demanding environment

  • Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques preferred

  • Analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies and relationship amongst individuals, corporations and foundations

  • Ability to work under pressure, balance many competing priorities and cultivate partnerships.

  • Strong personal work ethic, self-motivated and results-oriented.
