What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: This role is responsible for the engineering management of discipline design engineering for the project portfolio through all phases of the project delivery. He/she will work directly with Director, Capital projects and collaborate with process technology /engineering /reliability/SMEs and procurement team to develop and implement the discipline design engineering strategies by leveraging the external engineering contractor’s resources.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Overall accountable for the discipline engineering quality assurance for all projects in the capital portfolio.

  • Quality assurance of engineering deliverables as per the project stage gate process

  • Collaborate with capital portfolio managers to understand the design engineering requirements for the portfolio to develop annual and long- term plans for the engineering resourcing strategies

  • As the engineering management practice leader for the capital engineering design and project delivery, integrating multiple sources of information for optimum results to add value and drive effective and efficient design for each project

  • Define engineering deliverables to align with project management process and set the strategy for engineering delivery, that sets engineering alliances and partnerships to support the discipline engineering for the capital portfolio

  • Drive fit-for -purpose use and application of engineering standards and Industry best engineering practices not only limited to discipline engineering but also EHSS, reliability, and sustainability

  • Drive value improvement programs and processes as well as the standardization of design on a project basis

  • Drive design-to construct engineering philosophy in all projects

  • Review projects for the engineering deliverables quality and completeness prior to gate reviews to ensure the readiness for the next phase per plan and requirements

  • Ensure safe design of projects employing Goal Zero EHSS performance standards and practices throughout project execution phase

  • Ensure the design basis meets industry and the company’s standards and practices in alignment of project objectives and requirements. Ensure the technical correctness of the project design in support of the project’s construction, commissioning , and start-up

  • Qualify engineering services & materials providers according to the company’s technical & procurement requirements

  • Drive engineering standards optimized to minimize cost of projects. Put into place processes and tools to assure lowest and most cost-effective engineering design.

Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering from an accredited university is required. Certification: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires 10+ years of relevant experience in engineering and project management. with 10+ years experience working in the chemical, petrochemical, and refining industry on major projects from $5 MM to $100MM

  • Results driven change agent that can harness the organization, leveraging internal and external resources to achieve challenging engineering objectives in a dynamic environment

  • Strong knowledge and experience with capital project engineering requirements across all disciplines

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and handle multiple project’s engineering requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in leading and coordinating cross-discipline teams on major projects with excellent team-building and conflict resolution skills

  • Advanced knowledge of construction/maintenance methods, best practices and technical understanding of the specifications, codes and standard quality control inspections applicable to project engineering

  • Extensive practical experience desired with FEL process and required engineering deliverables with maturity levels for each phase

  • Strong knowledge and experiences with engineering and construction contractors and procurement work practices including multiple contracting models (EPCM, EPC Lump-sum, Lump-sum turnkey, reimbursable, cost plus, fixed fee, T &M, etc.)
