Profile Description:

The Associate Operations Engineer (Marine) is responsible for performing routine assignments in an entry-level role to support the Marine Operations discipline at McDermott. The role requires conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures within the Marine Operations discipline.

Job Overview:

The Associate Operations Engineer (Marine) utilizes existing Marine Operations procedures to support implementation of the procedure and to solve routine or standard problems. They receive instruction, guidance, and direction from others within the team, and they will leverage their conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to Marine Operations and supporting Engineering. The role is an office based position, however regular on site field support (construction sites and offshore locations) is required to properly execute the job duties.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Support ongoing and upcoming offshore operations

  • Both onshore and offshore engineering support to OCM/Superintendent of assigned vessel along with support of the Vessel Operations Manager as and when required

  • Support coordination between projects/tenders and other McDermott vessel /operational departments

  • Technical review of upcoming projects and tenders (operational procedures, method statements, schedules, equipment use, lay rates)

  • Regular assignments will include but are not limited to schedule assistance to projects and tenders; maintenance of as-build operations timing database (norms) and the vessel performance database; analysis of vessel daily reports; and following up on the ongoing CAPEX projects

  • Perform Production analysis – operations critical path assessment for the different activities during ongoing projects

  • Preparation of operations: Asset readiness, identify project-specific equipment needs/modifications

  • Develop and maintain Standard Operation Procedures

  • Identify and propose future CAPEX for operational improvement

  • Identify equipment synergies between projects and tenders

  • Ensure conformance to Level 2 procedures for all the project-specific wire rope applications and rigging

  • Assist with reviewing pre-rigged sling tie-downs and protection arrangements prepared by field engineers

  • Assist with the compilation of project rigging certification

  • Offshore rotations on one or more vessels

  • Assist in the execution of Marine Operations activities, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards within the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) industry

  • Contributes to the technical success, and offshore delivery of a component of an offshore construction project.

  • Perform regular field visits including offshore work sites to monitor construction / installation progress, identify potential issues or deviations from design / plan, and propose corrective actions in a timely manner

  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, contractors, and other third party representatives to ensure effective coordination and communication throughout the project lifecycle

  • Receive instruction from other Project Management Team members, Marine Operations Management, and/or Vessel Management team in support of timely execution of Project / Operational goals

  • Generate accurate and detailed reports, including site progress updates, technical evaluations, and quality control assessments

  • Contribute to the development of detailed project execution plans, including engineering interface deliverables, construction schedules, task plans, change management documentation, and site query / instruction activities

  • Identify and resolve technical challenges on-site, offering innovative solutions to mitigate risks and optimize project performance

  • Adhere to all HSE policies and guidelines, promoting a culture of safety and environmental awareness within the project team and subcontractors

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and standards, as well as internal quality management systems, to achieve project objectives and customer satisfaction

  • Provide technical support to both internal team members and external stakeholders, answering inquiries, clarifying technical aspects, and driving effective collaboration

  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancement, actively contributing to the improvement of project execution methodologies

  • Assists with the preparation of: Scopes of Works, Weekly Progress Reports, Project Procedures, Project Meeting Minutes, Subcontractor Package Scopes, Material Take Offs, Lessons Learned, Readiness Reviews, Constructability Reviews, and the like.

  • Assist with monitoring / expediting of Procedures and calculations approval, delivery of materials and equipment, interfaces with engineering and construction as necessary to expedite engineering / construction solutions, daily progress when offshore or at a construction site, client free issue materials.

  • Ensures under the supervision of the senior engineers assigned to the project that operations are carried out in accordance with engineering details, procedures, and specifications.

  • Provides support to a project in support and taking direction from the senior engineers assigned to the project.

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Ocean or Subsea Engineering from an accredited university

  • Less than 2 years of experience in the offshore/subsea industry

  • Proficient in MS Office suite of software

  • Proficient in ACAD

  • Fluent verbal and writing English communication skills

  • Able to prepare quality technical reports

  • Competence in performing structural calculations

  • Competence in verifying design

  • Offshore vessel rotation

  • Working in remote offices as and when needed

  • Required travel to other regions

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, civil, subsea, ocean, petroleum, energy, or chemical preferred) or a related field

  • 3 years preferred of relevant experience in the EPCI industry

  • Familiarity with project execution practices and engineering processes including basic conceptual knowledge of offshore operations and general practices.

  • Proficiency in using project planning software including Microsoft suite of applications (Word, Powerpoint, Excel, and/ Project)

  • Understanding of general engineering principles, technical drawings, and specifications

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards within the EPCI industry

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse stakeholders.

  • Exchanges straight forward information between stakeholders, and asks questions and confirms understanding.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration within cross-functional teams

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced work environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively

  • Demonstrated flexibility and resilience in dealing with unexpected challenges or changes in project requirements

  • Meticulous approach to work, ensuring all tasks are carried out with accuracy and precision

  • Strong organizational skills, maintaining complete and well-documented records

  • Demonstrates general understanding of cost and risk management and actively seeks to achieve added value.
