Houston Methodist Accounting & Reporting Analyst (Hybrid) in Houston, Texas

At Houston Methodist, the Accounting and Reporting Analyst position is responsible for identifying and compiling information for various governmental reports, including Medicare & Medicaid Cost Reports, Annual Tax Returns, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) claims, etc. Assists in researching government program rules and other complex issues. Prepares federal and state tax returns and ensures timely payment of taxes due. Interfaces across the organization with various system departments as well as government and business partner auditors. Reports financial information for various state and census surveys. Assists in annual operating budgets and maintains monthly budget information. Responsible for monthly closing duties which include journal entry preparation and account analysis.

PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Interfaces across the organization with various system departments as well as external business partners and auditors. Responds to information requests from across the organization and a variety of government agencies.

  • Effectively and proactively communicates with all stakeholders to research and resolve issues and discrepancies in a timely manner. Contributes to a positive working environment

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepares and submits the annual Medicare cost report for each Houston Methodist (HM) hospital and assists in cost report amendments, audit, appeals and reopening process.

  • Independently prepares federal and state tax returns and ensures that taxes are paid timely.

  • Extracts correct and accurate financial data from appropriate sources to report to and/or seek reimbursement from various government agencies.

  • Prepares month end net revenue (N/R) and accounts receivable (A/R) valuation accurately and timely.

  • Prepares journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and assists in other monthly and year-end net revenue (NR) and accounts receivable (AR) valuation.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in researching government regulations (i.e. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), etc.) and ensures that reports and tax returns are in compliance.

  • Confirms accuracy of data elements in reports and budget system through in-depth analysis and works to resolve inaccuracies.

  • Brings issues/concerns to the attention of department management.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages and analyzes big data files to support internal and external reporting for operations and, as needed, to respond to requests for information.

  • Utilizes resources effectively and efficiently. Demonstrates responsible financial stewardship. Manages own time effectively and prioritizes work to achieve maximum results.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Seeks out opportunities to grow knowledge of Medicare reimbursement, tax regulations and the budget system. Shares knowledge and learnings with team.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • One year experience in accounting or finance preferred

  • CPA - Certified Public Accountant - State Licensure

  • Working knowledge of Medicare reimbursement, tax and/or FEMA rules preferred
