Job Description Summary

 

As a Telecommunications Technician you will be pulling, installing, and terminating

cable for the voice, data, and security infrastructure at Michigan Tech. You will

become part of a culture that empowers employees, treats them with respect, and

encourages innovation and open communication.

 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

 

  1. Pull, terminate, and test Cat6/6A cable.

  2. Install cable pathways and raceways.

  3. Move phones, and make cross connections for new data and voice services.

  4. Install and terminate security and access control hardware.

  5. Mount and hang equipment such as wireless access points, and security cameras.

  6. Utilize ladders of varying heights, basic hand tools and power tools.

  7. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

  8. Learn basics between various types of cable and termination methods.

  9. Solve problems with existing cable infrastructure (Cat 3/5/6, 110 blocks, etc.

  10. Other duties as assigned.

  11. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.

  12. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

     

     

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

 

  • High school diploma

  • Valid driver's license

  • Must be a US Citizen (no dual citizenship).

     

     

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

Professional experience pulling, terminating, and testing network cabling.
