Position Summary...
We are seeking an entry-level diesel mechanic to perform basic maintenance and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles with diesel engines under the supervision of experienced mechanics. The successful candidate will be responsible for daily inspections, oil changes, fluid level checks, basic component replacements, troubleshooting minor issues, and assisting experienced mechanics with more complex repairs while learning the intricacies of diesel engine systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Basic Maintenance Tasks:
Checking and changing engine oil, filters, and fluids
Inspecting tire pressure and tread
Checking lights and other electrical systems
Performing pre- and post-trip inspections
Cleaning and maintaining work area
Component Replacement:
Replacing worn-out parts like belts, hoses, and batteries
Changing, oil, air and cabin filters
Replacing brake pads and components
Troubleshooting:
Identifying basic engine issues through diagnostic tools and visual inspection
Assisting experienced mechanics in diagnosing complex problems
Parts Handling:
Ordering necessary parts from the parts department
Properly storing and managing parts
Documentation:
Completing repair orders and documenting work performed
Maintaining accurate records of vehicle maintenance history
Required Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of a diesel mechanic training program or relevant technical skills a plus
Basic mechanical knowledge and understanding of diesel engine principles
Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
Physical stamina to work in a demanding environment
Willingness to learn and work under supervision

What you'll do...
We are seeking an entry level diesel truck and trailer mechanic to perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on Walmart equipment under the direct supervision of a qualified shop technician. The successful candidate will assess maintenance and repair needs, identify needed parts and possible solutions, and conduct maintenance and repairs following company and DOT guidelines. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be able to work as a team, and have a desire to learn and improve.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on Walmart equipment
Assess maintenance and repair needs and identify needed parts and possible solutions
Conduct maintenance and repairs following company and DOT guidelines
Seek approval for maintenance and repairs performed by qualified shop technicians
Communicate with individuals or groups verbally and in writing
Complete work orders, records, logs, and other written or computer-based documents according to established procedures
Receive fuel drops and conduct fuel sampling to ensure safety compliance
Monitor tank levels before and after the drop
Collect and prepare fuel samples for analysis and shipping
Complete appropriate paperwork

Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in diesel truck and trailer mechanics
Knowledge of company and DOT guidelines
Familiarity with fuel sampling and testing
Basic computer skills
Work Environment:
This role is based in a Walmart facility, with the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a team of experienced mechanics and support staff.
The work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, as well as on-call rotations for after-hours emergency repairs.

The hourly wage range for this position is $25.15-$28.65*
*The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location.
Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
