The Senior Professional in the Enterprise Business Continuity program within the Enterprise Risk Management ('ERM') function is responsible for assisting in the development, implementation, maintenance, and governance of the Enterprise Business Resiliency Program framework. This role helps to drive and deliver effective business continuity strategies to support and, in time of crisis, recover the company's critical business functions.


The Senior Professional works with assigned parts of the Enterprise to influence and mentor business continuity best practices, ensuring alignment with general regulatory requirements. The senior Professional oversees the BC lifecycle including BC plan annual maintenance, testing and BIA coordination, by building collaborative relationships with business stakeholders, bridging contingency gaps and understanding potential risks.

Additional Job Description

As a subject matter expert, this role is responsible for guiding the assigned business areas through the business continuity planning lifecycle to ensure effective and efficient plans that identify, prevent, detect and correct risk and noncompliance with applicable rules and regulations.

This individual contributor role drives the implementation of Humana's Business Resilience Program and provides assistance, expertise, and a common framework to the organization to follow for assessing business impacts, developing business continuity plans and recovery strategies.

This position involves partnership with many internal teams, as well as ongoing collaboration with Human's Crisis Management, IT Disaster Recovery, Corporate Security, Legal and Compliance teams, to facilitate quality and innovative risk management solutions that are calibrated across departments.

  • Help to conduct and facilitate BIAs* Develops training programs for stakeholders in the correct implementation of BC & DR processes, standards and impart training to ensure recoverability of

  • business processes and supporting services across departments

  • Support review and maintenance of business continuity policy, standards and processes.

  • Support internal reporting and tracking of business continuity related issues and remediation activities

  • Support the identification of Business Continuity related risks (internal / external), the assessment of their likelihood, as well as potential impacts and risk mitigation plans

  • Proactively identify and implement BCP program and process improvements

  • Provide ongoing SME guidance and assistance to departments on business continuity matters

  • Design, coordinate and execute BCP/DR annual test exercises for critical business processes, and produce test reports including lessons learned. Coordinate follow up on lessons as required

  • Review existing and proposed plans for recoverability effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement

  • Provide guidance to management in self-assessing their control environment

  • Assist Crisis Management / Incident Management teams during service disruption events, and contribute to process improvement initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • Ability to articulate business continuity concepts and methodology

  • Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII), Business Continuity Institute (BCI), or other business continuity professional certification in place or must be achieved within 2 years

  • Experience facilitating tabletop or practical exercises

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills that take complex ideas and simplify them for the audience

  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a cross-functional team

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and changing environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to work independently, effectively manage competing demands and priorities

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Must be passionate about contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving stakeholder experiences

  • Familiarity with Governance, Risk and Compliance as it applies to BCDR planning

  • Experience with Business Resumption Planning, Disaster Recovery Planning, conducting BIAs, etc.

  • Demonstrate the ability to think strategically and drive tactical execution

  • Experience with data analytics and dashboarding and BCM tools a plus (e.g. Power BI, Archer, etc.)

  • Data driven to architect and analytically develop robust management monitoring dashboards to report on key risk metrics.

  • Available 24x7 for emergency on-call support as needed
