Position : OSP Engineer I
Location : Honolulu, HI
Job Purpose :
The OSP Engineer I manages the planning, design, and construction of the access network of Hawaiian Telcom. The Network Engineering -- Outside Plant (OSP) group designs and details the integration of wireline, copper cable, fiber optics, high-speed internet, video, etc. into the network to provide voice, data, and video service.
Essential Functions :
Plan, field, design and issue OSP work orders on a timely basis to meet customer, service or required objectives
Support the field with respect to questions on issued work orders and in support of trouble
Meet with customers and prepare customer initiated quotes
Meet with and provide OSP design feedback to developers and electrical consultants
Process and respond to Joint Pole applications
Other tasks as related to providing service to customers, resolving trouble or supporting network requirements
Education :
Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses :
Must have a valid driver's license
Able to meet medical and driver certification requirements as established by the DOT Federal Highway Safety Act
Relevant Work Experience:
3 to 5 years in related field
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Demonstrated experience using FCC / PUC Tariffs; NEC/NESC Codes; OSP products and their applications
OSP design practices and construction techniques
Familiar with conduit systems, duct systems, road improvements, and environmental issues
Plan and budget allocation processes
Standard accounting practices
Appropriate applications for various transmission media i.e. copper - fiber cable
Manage multiple priorities, functions and tasks
Leverage leadership and a variety of technical skills to work across internal groups as well as with vendors and industry partners to support service offerings and infrastructure capabilities
Operate analytical test equipment such as data analyzers, oscilloscopes, etc.
Supervisory Responsibility :
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities
Work Environment:
Available 24/7 for call outs, emergencies, special situations, etc.
Travel required as needed
Work may be performed at various locations under varying conditions
Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift, carry, set-up, climb and take down ladders
May require lifting and carrying standard extension ladders, tools, and manhole and pull box covers
May require identifying and distinguish audible tones/levels and colors
May require push/pull heavy objects
Salary Range: $70,000 - $98,000
