BRIEF POSTING DESCRIPTION:

The P YP PSED PLANNING Department of the P POWER SUPPLY ENGINEERING Division at Hawaiian Electric Company has 1 Management vacancy available. (Role: Manager Supervisor)

JOB FUNCTION:

Manages the planning for boiler, electrical, and turbine maintenance functions and activities at the power generating stations while complying with all applicable safety and environmental regulations and laws.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the planning and scheduling for the repair of major and/or critical power plant machinery and equipment to ensure availability to meet system demands while optimizing the use of internal resources. Conducts on-site field investigations.

  • Manages the planning and scheduling of labor and non-labor resources to ensure operating equipment availability and reliability. Organizes and schedules major power plant O&M and capital projects such as boiler, turbine, and generator overhauls, preventative, predictive, corrective maintenance programs, and condition assessment programs, and plant modernization projects. Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements.

  • Supervises work of assigned personnel, including performance appraisals, teamwork and self-directed workforce, two-way communication, training and development, safety, and discipline.

  • Coordinates, analyzes, and prepares the Division’s O&M forecasts including the determination of appropriate staffing, tooling, and material requirements for maintaining power plant equipment and facilities.

  • Promotes teamwork and self-directed workforce to support quality initiatives and Company values.

  • Supports two-way communications to ensure a focused and well-informed workforce.

  • Interacts with all employees and other internal and external suppliers and customers in a positive, supportive, and collaborative manner, to ensure the fulfillment of Company strategic objectives.

  • Models behaviors consistent with Company values. Works with others to accomplish goals and objectives and maintain improvement in practices and procedures.

  • Promotes teamwork, reinforces, and mentors subordinates in the application of improvement tools, techniques, and behaviors to expose and eliminate waste from daily work assignments.

  • Effectively applies the Daily Management System methods to continuously improve the safety, quality, speed, timeliness, and cost of all work processes within assigned span of control.

  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge Requirements

  • Knowledge of boilers, turbines, generators, and related auxiliary equipment or equivalent related to operation and maintenance.

  • Working knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance or equivalent.

  • Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (i.e., spreadsheets, word processing, work order management system, scheduling system, etc.)

  • Thorough knowledge of union contracts, Company policies, and Department policies/practices.

  • Thorough familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations/permits, laws, and codes.

  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement deployment system, principles, procedures, tools, and desired behaviors.

    Skills Requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate with various levels of the organization, both verbally and in written communication.

  • Supervisory/leadership skills and abilities to work with a variety of individuals occasionally dealing with sensitive, difficult, or confrontational issues.

  • Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities and assignments.

  • Ability to handle difficult or sensitive issues while using tact, courtesy, and discretion.

  • Must have or be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license. Must meet the standards for required driving positions in the Hiring Standards for Required Driving Positions policy.

    Experience Requirements

  • Multiple years (7-10) of related maintenance and operational experience in an electric utility or equivalent.

  • Several years (3-5) of related work experience in a supervisory capacity.

  • A few years (1-2) of related experience in preparing operating budgets and managing expenses.
