Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawaii Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $5,000 - $5,834/Mon.

DUTIES: Participates as a member of the Energy Materials Laboratory, focusing on developing advanced hydrogen materials. Researches and coordinates, novel assignments and projects on developing hydrogen carrier materials, with particular emphasis on boron and nitrogen-containing materials. Performs solid state synthesis and wet synthesis of hydrogen carrier materials. Conducts materials characterization using various techniques and instruments, including calorimetry, vibrational spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and sievert-type apparatus. Assists with the care and maintenance of lab equipment. Prepares manuscripts for scientific publications, data reports, presentations and other formal summaries based on research results.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:


EDUCATION PhD from an accredited college or university in

Material Science, Chemistry or Engineering, or related field with academic coursework focus and research related to the development of advanced materials.

EXPERIENCE One to three (1-3) years of experience in

research involving gas absorption on materials.

KNOWLEDGE Proficient knowledge in

practices and techniques in chemistry or materials science as they relate to gas sorption. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, Federal and State laws, rules and regulations associated with hydrogen storage/carrier materials.

ABILITIES and SKILLS Strong ability to

interpret and present technical information and ideas clearly and accurately in writi g, verbally, and by preparation of reports, publishable papers other materials. Ability to use and maintain laboratory equipment and instrumentation relevant to test and evaluate gas sorbents. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of risks, hazards and mitigation strategies associated with handling, storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the Environmental and Health Safety Office (EHSO) Hazardous Waste Generator and Hydrogen Safety training within one (1) month from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.
