  • Position Summary*

Hawaiian Airlines is seeking a dynamic and experienced Network Planning Director to join our team. As the Network Planning Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our airline's route network and ensuring optimal connectivity for our passengers. You will lead a team of talented professionals in analyzing market trends, evaluating route performance, and identifying growth opportunities to enhance our competitive position in the industry. This position reports to the Managing Director, Network and Schedule Planning.

  • Key Responsibilities*

  • Creates profitable medium and long-term plans, based on an evaluation of macroeconomic and industry data and trends, competitive threats and potential opportunities. Guides strategic discussions and contributes insight based on constantly refreshed, up-to-date knowledge and analysis of the industry and competitors

  • Leads efforts to create route & network P&L forecasts to test new market opportunities as well as medium and long-term scenarios:

o Identifies new markets for growth and assess market growth potential

o Develops traffic, revenue and ASM forecasts at the equipment, route, and network level for various schedule scenarios based on likely competitor responses

o Creates robust network scenarios, incorporating potential competitive reaction

o Works closely with Finance and Operations to validate P/L and operational impact

  • Guides work in cross-functional teams to develop analyses and test scenarios to support route launch decisions

o Develop business cases incorporating all stakeholder input

o Builds consensus on each recommendation and ushers proposal through various checkpoints

  • Recommends frequency changes and new markets to maximize the profitability of HA’s network

  • Develops and maintains long-term schedule and 5-10 year plans

  • Analyzes network impacts of schedule changes, interline and code-share relationships

  • Prepares network strategy presentations and develops relevant materials for the senior management team, the Board of Directors, and affiliated government bodies

  • Leads cross functional analysis of poorer performing markets

  • Maintains and calibrates network planning models and systems

  • Assists in the Short and Long-Term Fleet Planning process by developing network scenarios and assessing aircraft compatibility in various scenarios; assesses economics of potential aircraft reconfiguration

  • Supports other teams such as Sales, Cargo and Alliances in building overall business, including helping pursue alliance/codeshare agreements

  • Other duties as assigned or directed

  • Minimum Requirements*

  • Bachelors’ degree, with a concentration in finance, economics, relevant quantitative field, or and equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Deep understanding of airline economics and business models

  • 5 years experience performing network planning / network analysis activities at an airline or other transportation-related company, including experience with financial modeling/analysis and presentation development

  • 5 years of experience in managing teams and/or direct reports

  • Deep understanding of basic airline concepts such as Origin & Destination, Connect vs. Local passengers, Spill & Recapture, Demand Elasticity and fundamental Revenue Management concepts

  • Advanced aptitude in problem-solving, including the ability to logically structure an appropriate analytical framework

  • Adaptability and flexibility in the use of analytical approaches pertaining to problem solving

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Excel, Word)

  • Able to develop high quality, professional (PowerPoint) presentations, particularly related to the visual display of quantitative information

  • Superior analytical and communication skills with an ability to clearly coordinate and communicate across the enterprise

  • Excellent teamwork skills, with proven ability to work effectively in a variety of situations and across the enterprise

  • Ability to work independently in close coordination with other functional areas

/ Please note that the provided salary information serves as a general guideline. Our salary is determined by a candidate's experience and qualifications as well as market and business considerations. The expected pay range is $138,000 - $169,000./
