Description
GAI Consultants is seeking an Engineer 3 with a bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering and a Pennsylvania PE license (or the ability to secure a PA PE license) plus a minimum of eight (8) years of post-baccalaureate, progressively responsible experience in Civil Engineering. Potential work locations may include offices in Cranberry or Homestead, PA. Applicants would be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing highway design efforts as well as preparing construction plans, right-of-way plans, specifications, and project estimates.
Specific Duties:
- Assist the Project Manager with all portions of engineering projects; maintain quality standards for all aspects of the projects; mentor lower-level staff as needed for technical issues.
- Assist with developing and providing oversight for the preparation of scopes, budgets, and schedules for specific tasks of overall projects, supervise staff to complete their assigned tasks; identify project staffing requirements and coordinate staffing with supervisor; maintain GAI's procedures and protocols; assist with all aspects of financials on projects.
- Design development, review, and management of assignments; highway engineering horizontal and vertical geometry designs through CAD software (MicroStation, OpenRoads) using the AASHTO Green Book, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, and applicable state/county/local government guidance documents; hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and storm sewer and stormwater management design; checking deliverables for technical completeness and compliance with engineering principles, company standards, client contract requirements, and related specifications.
- May serve as a Task Manager on small projects.

- Develops plans, specifications, and other project documents.
- Selects appropriate principles of engineering economics, and probability and statistics to analyze risk in a complex engineering problem.
Experience Required
- 8+ years
Education
- B.S. or M.S. Engineering
Certification/Licensure
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.
Technical Responsibilities
- Assigns tasks to other technical and non-technical staff. Predominantly plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
- Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
- Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or projects.
Management Responsibility
- Receives supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
- Receives direction on unusual conditions and developments.
- Mentor direct reports and other engineers.
- Demonstrates professional attitudes relevant to the practice of engineering, including creativity, curiosity, flexibility, and dependability.
Communication Skills
- Possesses advanced oral and written communication skills, including interpretation of complex technical and contractual language.
- Considers the needs of diverse project stakeholders.
- Leads project meetings and represents the organization in communications pertaining to broad aspects of engineering assignments.
- Analyzes and selects principles of formal communication, effective teamwork, and various pathways to developing leadership.

Qualifications
Education Bachelors of Engineering (required)
