GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking an Assistant Engineering Director in the Transmission and Distribution Line Engineering Division. This position will report to the Division Leader of Transmission and Distribution Lines in our Power Delivery Engineering Business Sector in GAI's Power Business Unit. The ideal candidate's duties will consist of electric transmission and distribution line design, overall project management, client interaction, proposal creation, technical guidance/training of staff, design reviews, scheduling, staffing, invoicing, budget control, QA/QC enforcement, and business development related to all aspects of electrical transmission and distribution design services. This position will be performed remotely but connected to a GAI office and will be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Project Management Responsibilities: Up to approximately 30% of job duties are dedicated to managing assigned projects, including responsibility for delivering scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability. Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed. Coordinates and develops proposed scope, schedule, and fee for projects managed. Demonstrates mastery of fundamental project management skills and use of PM advanced techniques and practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. Works closely with Project Controls/Accounting staff to monitor and control project cost and billings to meet budget profit, analyze project performance data on an ongoing basis, and develop recovery plans as needed. Technical Responsibilities: Up to approximately 20% of job duties are dedicated to technical work, including but not limited to engineering design, drawing creation, development of bills of material, permit development, and QA/QC. Implements effective engineering methods, provides technical guidance, and acts as a resource for engineers and designers. Performs complex tasks and will have some latitude for determining appropriate processes to follow. Business Development Responsibilities: Approximately 30% of job duties are dedicated to Business Development, including developing relationships obtaining new work with existing clients, and presenting capabilities to potential clients. Serves as primary client contact for projects managed and actively wins new work from both new and existing clients by building and maintaining customer relationships, monitoring future work opportunities, communicating regularly, and attending client events. Supervisory Responsibilities: Up to 20% of job duties may be dedicated to, directly and indirectly, supervising the transmission and distribution lines' technical staff. Supervises, develops and manages the career path of direct reports, including performance and compensation reviews. Administers policies and procedures and evaluates results and performance for direct reports. Trains, coaches, leads, and directs the work of designers, engineers, task managers, PMs, supervisors, and managers. Develops, implements, maintains, and manages group processes, including but not limited to, QMS and resource planning. Manages the productivity of the group, meeting the needs of clients while also meeting GAI's performance and profitability goals. Experience Required: A minimum of 18 years of related experience, or less experience and an advanced degree, including a minimum of 5 years of supervisory and/or project management experience, is required. Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships Demonstrated sales experience in acquiring new clients Demonstrated success in group and project management, staff growth and development, client development, and directing the concurrent execution of multiple complex projects and tasks. Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management skills and concepts such as: developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, calculating profit, etc., Demonstrated mastery of fundamental project management skills and use of PM advanced techniques and practices to increase productivity, efficiency, and accuracy. Demonstrated business acumen and have a clear understanding of financial statements as they apply to the business. Willingness to learn GAI-specific project management procedures and requirements Demonstrates in-depth understanding of software as needed to perform the duties described here, including PLS-CADD, Microsoft Office Suite applications and software, CAD programs, document management systems, database software, HR Systems, internet software, and reporting tools related to databases and client-specific software. Experience managing technical staff and performing duties such as hiring, budgeting, employee performance, and compensation reviews, creating a group and department goals. Serves as a subject matter expert with an in-depth understanding of electric transmission and distribution line design and engineering concepts and principles. Minimum Years of experience 18+ Certification/Licensure Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states. Driver's License Required Education B.S. Engineering or other technical degree, Master's Degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred Technical Responsibilities Performs advisory or consulting work for the practice across broad project areas or within a specialized area with innovative/complex aspects. Assesses practices and requirements to achieve sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective. Project and Task Management Oversees multiple large or multidiscipline project teams. Develops projects needed for accomplishing the objectives of the practice. Evaluates project management plans for complex engineering projects. Develops risk mitigation plans to address project risks. Evaluates effectiveness of leaders and teams. Management Responsibility Receives general administrative direction from senior leadership team. Develops practice strategy for staff development through mentored experience, continuing education, and self-development. Communication Skills Negotiates critical and controversial issues with leadership. Represents the organization at important functions and conferences. Integrates concepts of effective teamwork and leadership. Travel Requirements Must be able to travel to GAI and client office locations as needed. Travel requirement is estimated at up to 10%.
