The Role

Job Summary

  • Lumen is seeking a skilled AI Senior Network engineer who possesses the technical prowess and analytical acumen to harness machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in addressing and changing how AET develops business. This role is pivotal in our pursuit to make data-driven decisions that enhance how to advance and consume information, aiding planning and engineering.

  • The Planning and Engineering Guidelines (PEG) team develops and maintains companywide tools under the guidance of the Strategy and Development teams, who are responsible for selecting network equipment and developing architecture strategies for Lumen. Consequently, PEG Engineers must collaborate closely with Planning, Engineering, Procurement, Field Engineering, Installation, Operation, Project Management, Operational Enablement, Sales Engineering, Product Management, and Lab teams. These tools serve to drive efficiencies, reduce cycle times, minimize rework, limit operational impacts, and enhance network reliability.

The Main Responsibilities

  • Work in an Agile environment

  • Develop, train and maintain Architecture and Configuration guidelines and various tools that depict the standard, approved Lumen equipment that can be planned, engineered and installed in the network

  • Employ engineering principles to manage, process, and analyze extensive and intricate data sets, ensuring data integrity and precision.

  • Utilize advanced analytical methods to derive meaningful insights and identify trends from multi-dimensional data.

  • Design and develop predictive models using machine learning algorithms to forecast relevant outcomes.

  • Harness AI to automate and refine PEG documents and processes, facilitating more efficient and effective decision-making.

  • Propose and implement enhancements to new and existing PEG documents, processes and models, aiming for greater accuracy and efficiency.

  • Provides direction, training, and guidance as a resource for less experienced staff.

  • Prepares and delivers PEG training focused on tools and equipment.

What We Look For in a Candidate

  • English proficiency (C1/C2).

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or the equivalent in training and experience

  • Proficiency in Network architecture and equipment/software

  • 3+ years of scripting language development experience (BASH or similar).

  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel and database management

  • Advanced skills in SQL, Python, and Microsoft Copilot for data manipulation, analysis, and modeling

  • Proficient in machine learning and artificial intelligence, including supervised and unsupervised learning, natural language processing, computer vision, deep learning, and neural networks

  • Experienced in data visualization and storytelling, particularly using Power BI

  • Experience with one or more languages, such as Python, Perl or similar.

  • Experience with Databases and how best to host these in a cloud environment. Skills with LMDB and LDAP are recommended.

  • Experience with JSON REST APIs and familiarity with Postman or other API design platform such as Apigee and/or Swagger.

  • Familiarity with big data technologies (BigQuery, Mongo, SQL, Kafka) is a plus.

  • Familiarity with network services including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and Radius.

  • Intermediate experience with traditional server-based Network Management Systems (NMS) is a bonus
