SOIL CONSERVATION TECHNICIAN: The Jackson County Conservation District is a partner agency within the NRCS/USDA Field Office. This is an apprentice type career position with the potential to transition into an NRCS Technician position as a federal employee. The position involves work outdoors visiting landowners, evaluating conservation best management practices, designing soil conservation practices, working with survey equipment and layout of practices in the field, overseeing construction, checkout, traversing uneven terrain, working with computerized mapping system and other computer programs, and more. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. Requirements: background in conservation or agriculture (Two-year degree with agriculture classes would substitute for background in conservation or agriculture), computer skills, ability to communicate effectively and work well with people, valid Kansas state drivers license, and pass a security background investigation, as required by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture.
