Welcome to Combinatorial Microbiology!

You will become part of the Combinatorial Microbiology department which is anchored within the Applied R&D Dairy and Dairy Alternative. The department is composed of 35 highly skilled scientists and technicians, which are distributed in four teams with different areas of responsibility.

Our department plays a pivotal role in both short and long-term new product development projects. We develope biosolutions for a wide range of applications including cheese, fresh dairy, dairy and meat alternatives, prepared foods, wine and fermented beverages by using a combinatorial microbiology approach. We translate market needs into biosolutions through combinations of microorganisms and enzymes using digital systems supported by application relevant model systems.

Furthermore, the department has a strong focus on developing laboratory methods in micro, small and medium scale, digital competences, and skills in general that are essential to develop the biosolutions of the future.

In this role you’ll make an impact by: As Team Manager for the Technician team, you will lead, motivate, and set direction for a team of eight skilled and passionate technicians plus a student worker. In addition, two more technicians are currently in process of being hired. The technicians are our expects in the laboratory where they on a daily basis plan, structure and execute on project related tasks. The technicians support projects covering a wide range of applications including fresh dairy, cheese, plant-based dairy and meat alternatives, fermented beverages as well as bioprotection of a variety of food applications.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Lead and motivate the team to build one coherent team

  • Oversee day-to-day activities and guide the team members

  • Set a clear direction for the team and drive competence development to ensure that we maintain a technical and product-related competitive advantage, and ensure alignment between team skills and department objectives

  • Create a clear overview of incoming projects and distribute projects according to competences and wishes plus ensure that the team is sufficiently trained within the required competences

  • Coordinate laboratory related activities and continuously scout for improvements together with the team to deliver on Novonesis’ strategy

  • Being a valued member of our management team and ensure a strong connection with the three other departments in Combinatorial Microbiology

  • Own the role as the safety representative for the department

    To succeed you must hold: The key to success in this position will be your ability to build one coherent team working towards a shared vision. In addition, we are looking for a profile that can create an overview of our diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate will possess strong skills in coordinating team competencies and methods to ensure successful project execution.

To facilitate this, you:

  • Preferably hold a Master’s degree in natural sciences - within food science or a related scientific field, and has extensive experience from a laboratory environment

  • Have experience within people management or project management. However, it is not a prerequisite to be seen as relevant for the role

  • Enjoy leading, supporting, and developing team members, with a strong drive to foster a motivating and cohesive team culture

  • Are confident by nature enabling you to stand your ground and set a clear direction, but at the same time consider and respect the input from others

  • Are curious and driven by a desire to know and understand the technical work done to support the different application areas, and the technical know-how needed to stay competitive long-term

  • Take a strong interest in securing the quality level of experimental protocols together with the team and the scientists

As a person you are good at making things work and you are not shaken easily by a changing environment. You have a positive mindset, but you can at the same time ask the critical questions needed to be successful in the future.
