Job Description

Programming Changes that Repair/Optimize Equipment

Performs automation/controls programming, design and engineering functions in accordance with accepted practices and company standards. Performs troubleshooting on existing and new PLCs and HMIs. Programs PLCs and HMIs. Manages controls engineering projects from conception through completion:

  • Interprets equipment capabilities and specifications.

  • Defines equipment required to achieve optimal production.

  • Prepares detailed project scopes of work.

  • Develops electrical schematics.

  • Prepares and manage schedules.

  • Manages installation and modifications.

  • Programs and troubleshoots PLCs and HMIs.

  • Conducts start-up and training.

Investigates equipment performance and identifies any problems for corrective actions and solutions. Works closely with all internal team members to identify issues and implement improvements. Executes Factory and Site Acceptance Tests, Commissioning, IOQs and Validation Protocols. Utilizes continuous improvement methodology to improve internal processes. Writes/revises SOPs, User Requirement Specs, Functional Requirement Specs, Design Specs, Qualifications, etc.

Equipment Uptime Maximized

Serves as a primary resource for resolving mechanical issues involving controls operation and safety. Provides automation, controls and electrical engineering support for corrective actions and deviations by identifying root cause and offering solutions. Resolves technical processing issues related to equipment downtime and operation. Position is, at times, hands-on requiring trouble shooting of complex automated equipment and processes. Acts as an automation, controls and electrical subject matter expert for equipment operation and efficiencies.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline. Electrical, Mechatronics or Automation/Controls Engineering preferred or other equivalent experience will be considered with solid evidence of success.

Experience:

2+ years within the Pharmaceutical industry or similar, as an Electrical or Automation Engineer/Technician.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Electrical, Automation and/or Controls Engineering and CAD Education.

Other Skills/Competencies:

  • Programming related to Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Charts, Function Block Diagrams, Structured Text and Motion Groups.

  • Proficient with PLC programs such as RS Logix 500 and RS Studio 5000.

  • Proficient with accepted engineering and scientific terms, principles and concepts.

  • Expertise with AutoCAD electrical, electrical schematics, P&ID drawings.

  • Experience with Allen Bradley VFDs and Servomotor drives, safety circuits and safety devices.

  • Knowledge of HMI and PLC control systems, and electro-mechanical manufacturing equipment.

  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley Rockwell, Omron and Mitsubishi PLCs Product Lines.

  • Knowledge of Controls Equipment and Software other than Allen Bradley is a plus. (ie BnR, ABB, Yaskawa and Fanuc)

  • Knowledge of Industrial Networks and FactoryTalk AssetCentre

  • Knowledge of FDA, DEA, NFPA, IEEE and OSHA codes and regulations.

  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project.

  • Able to work both independently and within a team as a supporting member.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • Good verbal and written communications skills, and ability to communicate clearly and efficiently.

Compensation: $65,000.00 - $90,000.00
