The Position

Communications Manager

This role contributes to strategize, plan and execute all communications activities for the OPU. The role interacts closely with senior stakeholders, especially in Business Units (Bus) and Group Functions (GFs). It also supports and advises the OPU teams on governance and coordination, as well as on regional/global campaigns and communication programs.

This is a role for a seasoned communications manager with experience in corporate matters and with the maturity profile to be a trusted strategic partner to internal stakeholders.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to shape and execute the local actitivies, both Human Pharma (HP) & Animal Health (AH), mapped against the Communications Strategic Agenda with the role's remit and coordinate local execution.

  • Ensure that local campaigns and communications programs in the role's remit are in line with and support of the the Global Comms Strategic Agenda and built in inclusive ways with the OPU teams and corporate Comms, Public & Government Affairs (C&PGA) functional teams and other core stakeholders.

  • Contributes to developing suitable communications platforms and formats to reach audiences effectively. Develop and execute on communication strategies in accordance with Boehringer Ingelheim’s values, business strategy as well as priorities in the area of work.

  • Strategic mindset and approach to manage all communication activities in the OPU.

  • Position Boehringer Ingelheim/the Business Unit, its Corporate Brand and products in external and internal communication channels (with close collaboration with ROPU Comms).

  • Responsible to implement ROPU governance and core processes for all key areas in the role’s remit to ensure consistent and flawless communications internally and externally, according to global guidelines and governance protocols.

  • Support liaison with the ROPU Comms, local ExCom, BU and Group Function leadership to ensure governance.

  • Effectively manage third party agencies to help manage the successful execution of all communication activities -HPBU, AHBU and Corporate Communication.

  • Support internal communication for the OPU, in partnership with supporting functions such as HR, for related internal employee engagement activities.

  • Internal employee engagement and stakeholder management.

  • Responsible in supporting the cascade of internal communication messaging to the OPU, in alignment with ROPU Comms.

Requirements:

Minimum Education / Degree Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field

Required Capabilities (Skills, Experience, Competencies):

  • Experienced communications manager with at least 5-7 years of experience

  • Background and proven experience in corporate/product communications activities with a broad scope

  • Pharma/healthcare experience is crucial.

  • Good track record in the field of strategic of leadership communications

  • Crisis and issues management experience, ability to operate under pressure and keep a cool head

  • Knows what it takes to run an effective local campaign with impact

  • Understands what moves employees through effective internal communications

  • Experience in working in a matrixed organization.

  • Confident interaction with others and has the robustness to deal with pushback and being challenged

  • Able to transform a strategic vision into concrete actions and plans

  • Excellent editorial and copywriting skills

  • A collaborator who prefers an inclusive approach over an individual approach
