As the Intellectual Property (IP) Architecture Lead in the silicon engineering organization, you will lead the team responsible for defining the architecture for system IP used to create cutting-edge computing systems. You will work closely with the product architecture and System On Chip (SOC) architecture teams, providing technical leadership to ensure our system IP enables performant, efficient, and industry-leading system architectures. The team you’ll be leading is at the forefront of our chip design efforts - defining the architecture of our system IP components while working closely with all other sub-disciplines throughout the design process, including the performance modeling, Register Transfer Level (RTL), verification, and physical-design teams. The team you’ll be leading will be involved in numerous projects within Microsoft, developing custom silicon for a diverse set of systems. We are responsible for delivering cutting-edge, custom SoC designs that can perform complex and high-performance functions in the most efficient manner.
Responsibilities
In this high impact & highly visible role on the team, you will be responsible for:
Leading the architecture team to define and create world-class system IP which is concurrently optimized for performance, power, area, and functionality. IP responsibility includes memory controller, fabric, cache hierarchy, coherency controllers, Output Current (IO) bridges, power management logic, and more.
Defining the roadmaps for all IP components, including high-level and detailed architecture features, through collaboration with internal customers and with the product-architecture and product-management teams.
Working with the SOC architecture teams across multiple projects to ensure system IP meets all SOC needs and is architected for ease of integration and utility.
Working closely with the leadership and engineers across all sub-disciplines to ensure system IP meets all needs of the design team
Influencing the architecture and design of the SOCs which include our system IP.
Challenging the status quo with a growth mindset to push the envelope and enable world-class SOC products across Microsoft.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience.
8+ years of experience in the field of architecture
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
15+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
Computer system and silicon architecture knowledge in areas such as performance, power management, security, interconnect, microprocessors, memory systems, and I/O device architecture.
Understanding of Security threat models and ability to architect secured access paths.
Understanding of virtualization architecture.
Strong understanding of processor architecture, industry standard interface protocols, packaging technologies and micro-architecture gained as part of CPU, SoC and/or IP development teams.
Accomplished architect with focus on implementation topologies that support low latencies and high bandwidth in a given power budget.
Performance, power and use case modeling expertise.
Knowledge and experience of working with the IP vendors.
Ability to work with multiple teams with proven collaboration, communication, and leadership.
Hardware Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
