The Agile Engineering and Innovation department (L531) - is seeking a talented and experienced software engineer to lead complex software engineering activities across the Air Force at the Hill Air Force Base site. This role focuses on advancing the state of practice of secured development, delivery and operations of software-intensive systems across the Air Force enterprise. The technical objectives of this project are to identify, prototype and implement rapidly evolving software technologies to accelerate delivery of mission capabilities across all Air Force and Space Force operational domains. Roles and Responsibilities: + Partner with the new Air Force Software Engineering Directorate sponsor to prototype safety-critical software development, certification and deployment methodologies. + Engineer and implement cyber resiliency analysis framework in software-intensive systems. + Investigate leading-edge technologies such as quantum computing, artificial intelligence, digital trust, Web3 and develop recommendations for adoption roadmaps. + Investigate and prototype model-based system and software engineering tools, processes and governance structures. + Investigate, recommend and implement appropriate cloud architecture and infrastructure to enable scaled development and operations pipelines across multiple software environments. + Research and recommend safety critical software design, development, testing and certification methodologies. + Identify, scope and establish partnering constructs with local and remote innovation programs to facilitate adoption of emerging software technologies. + Investigate and tailor best practices for Air Force software engineering operations (such as Software Bill of Materials (SBOM), Unit Software Lifecycle Management (USLM), Test Driven Development (TDD), etc.). Minimum Qualifications: + R equires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience + DoD Secret clearance + Experienced in hands-on agile software development processes and tools. Strong knowledge of legacy and modern computer languages (Java, C, C++), data structures, computer program design methods and techniques, common operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows), virtualization and cloud technologies, and networking technologies from the programmer’s perspective. + Proven ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of senior leaders, mission experts, technical stakeholders, system and software developers. + Demonstrated track record in delivering a variety of operational software systems and modern software engineering practices. + Located near Hill Air Force Base. Preferred Qualifications: + 8+ years hands-on software engineering and leadership experience. + DoD Top Secret clearance. + Deployed and managed software releases in government cloud services. + Experienced in Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) workflows and data center operations. + Published in software engineering forums or journals. + Certifications in programming languages, virtualization technologies (such as VMware), security (such as CISSP) and network administration. + Strong and effective inter-personal and communication (verbal and written) skills in complex and dynamic organizational environments. + Managed software development teams and product deliveries.
