Position Description:Kentucky College Coaches on Campus maintains that all students deserve equal opportunity, access, and support with their education. Coaches assist students in making a successful academic and social transition from high school to college and offer them information and services to help them persist. The purpose of the mentor program is to ensure that students, especially underserved and marginalized students (e.g., first-generation college-going, low-income, minorities, non-traditional, disabled, etc.), get the information, knowledge, and coaching they need to attain their educational goals.Dates: August 1, 2023- May 31, 2024 (Possible extension to 7/31/2024)*Hours: 37.5 hours/week, Monday-FridayPay: $1,810 per month in living allowance, less FICA and other applicable taxesBenefits: Healthcare and childcare eligibility, federal student loan forbearance eligibility, professional development, and an education award of $4546.50 upon completing serviceQualifications:Bachelor’s degree preferredResponsibilities:Document student contact and report to supervisorAttend all trainings and meetingsMeet with site supervisor dailyContact mentees regularly and keep up on and document your time commitmentAssist staff with programs and community service activitiesRecruit volunteers when necessary for a group or large event(s)Removing the achievement gapCareer opportunities for students who have lost jobsOutreach for dual credit programming (middle school and high school)Monitoring students and mentoring themBoosting self-esteem in your core students and campus lifeConnecting with different trade school programs on campusWorking closely with the college and community…being visible, and connecting with resourcesInteracting and working closely with mental health servicesIdentify available resources for students (academic, financial, and community)Linking home, school, and communityGathering data and statistics to find your Core Students (first-time degree-seeking minority students, traditional and non-traditional)Working and developing intervention plans with other department coaches to find students who are on the brink of academic probation or dropping outConnecting with educational programs such as TRIO Student Support Services, The Learning Space, and moreWorking on the Cultural Diversity CommitteeBeing an Advisor for the Cultural Diversity Department OrganizationsDesired Skills and Characteristics:Must be proficient in Microsoft Word (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Publisher, Access, etc.)Must be proficient in writing/sending emailsMust be proficient in answering or placing callsAbility to maintain confidentialityExhibit strong interpersonal communication skillsAbility to be a positive and productive team memberExcellent organizational skills and mentoring experience
