Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

As a member of the Equipment Development Group in Cable Technology, you would manage the design, revision, and storage of electronic drawing files (Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD Mechanical, and Vault) for custom designed process equipment/tooling located in North America.

Primary responsibilities include taking various levels of ownership of the equipment development for a cable project with guidance (as needed) from engineering peers. You would complete all required work to the drawing set and assist with the formal release process in Autodesk Vault. This includes ensuring that all components are captured in the model and drawing package, drawings are technically accurate, follow ASME standards, and follow all Corning specific drafting standards. On occasion, you would support targeted requests to assist Division Engineering and/or Plant Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build 3D models and 2D drawing packages with some level of guidance from development engineers.

  • Review drawing packages for standards compliance and correct as required

  • Assist engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel in releasing and updating relevant process equipment drawings within the drawing database via the ECR process.

  • Assist resolving drawing issues during equipment fabrication, assembly, and installation

  • Participate in developing new standards, policies, or procedures to improve current processes

  • Train and coach new drafting resources on standards, processes, and procedures

Work Environment:

  • M-F, 8am-5pm base schedule.

  • Travel requirements: minimal and within North Carolina.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidates should possess one of the following, but other technical degrees with demonstrated skills in drafting will be considered:

  • A.A.S. Mechanical Engineering Technology degree

  • A.O.S. Drafting/CAD degree

  • Drafting Certificate/Certification

  • Candidates without degrees must demonstrate proficiency in 2D and 3D drafting

  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in the mechanical drafting field

  • Working knowledge of ASME/ANSI drafting standards

  • General Windows-based computer skills

  • Proficient in the use of Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault software

  • Able to adapt to company standards and guidelines

  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail

The range for this position is $66,130.00 - $90,930.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
