Center for Host Defense, Immunity and Lung disease (CHILD) of Penn State College of Medicine is seeking a qualified, motivated Research Technologist I to join a talented research team focusing on developmental mechanistic studies to identify pathogenesis and genetic susceptibilities of lung disease in premature infants. We are searching for a highly organized and self-motivated individual, ideally with previous experience in lab management The duties will include assisting lab members in individual projects, conduct experiments including observations, collect, compile and process data, organize data and findings, analyze data collected and provide support to the PI, researchers and technicians both within the lab and collaborating researchers. The successful applicant will order supplies and maintain and organize the inventory, assist with IACUC and IRB protocols and train students and others in the lab. Successful applicants should have a degree in Biology or related fields.

This is a fixed term appointment funded one year from date of hire.


  • Execution of experiments, data analysis, record keeping, ordering lab supplies etc.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and certifications

  • Maintain inventory of raw materials, buffers, and reagents

  • Handle animal (mice) breeding colony

  • Perform common assay like Western Blot, ELISA, PCR, qPCR

  • Maintain cell culture

  • Participate in troubleshooting of processes

  • Complete projects by assisting project team; attend and participate in team, department, and all-hands meetings.


  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS) or Masters in related science field required

  • Hands on experience with animal husbandry, breeding, drug administration (IP, IV, SC, IM, IF, oral gavage), necropsy, bleeding, data collection, and interacting with veterinary staff in animal facility

  • Western Blot, ELISA, PCR, qPCR etc.

  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends, and holidays
