JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Family and Community Medicine, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a full-time Education Program Specialist to join our community-engaged, dynamic, fast paced, interdisciplinary Food as Medicine Initiative team. Our team’s goal is to realize a future where everyone can identify, access, prepare, and eat high quality, culturally appropriate food so they can achieve optimal health. To that end, o ur team develops, tests, and implements evidence-based nutrition education and culinary medicine programming for diverse groups of people in community and clinical settings.

The Education Program Specialist will be responsible for developing, coordinating and delivering new and existing nutrition education programming across the Penn State College of Medicine, Penn State Health, and the Cancer Institute Catchment area. They will conduct nutrition education, food tastings, and cooking demonstrations for children, adults, and families. Program delivery settings could be online or in person at community partner sites, primary care clinics, gardens, or food banks/pantries, just to name a few. This is a new role that requires creativity and someone comfortable with building new relationships, developing new programs, and establishing new processes.

This position will also play a key role within our SNAP Education team and will focus on ensuring we meet our work plan goals. This includes identifying new program delivery sites, developing monthly class schedules with our partners, maintaining existing relationships where SNAP-Ed approved curricula is delivered, preparing lesson plans, and ordering food, materials and supplies. Finally, this position will be responsible for conducting policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) changes (i.e., conducting local food environment assessments, meeting with partners to make site nutrition policy changes), collecting evaluation outcomes, and tracking and reporting progress to funders.

This candidate must have the following:

  1. Exceptional people skills

  2. A passion for impacting diverse communities by providing high quality, culturally appropriate nutrition programming in clinical and community settings either in person or virtually (synchronously and/or asynchronously).

  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  4. Proven experience marketing and delivering health education programs (individuals and groups)

  5. Experience evaluating health education programs and comfortable collecting outcomes data

  6. Some familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, or others) and content development (i.e., Word, Canva, Adobe Suite).

Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree and 6+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. A registered dietitian in good standing with experience working in clinical or community settings is highly desired.

2.Spanish language fluency is highly desired and a significant plus.

This position will be in person with responsibilities either in the Hershey, PA office or at program delivery sites. Candidates should be able to work independently and in a team environment. They must have the ability to contribute to the Penn State College of Medicine and FCM’s missions. Access to reliable transportation for local travel within the Penn State area is required. Flexibility with work schedule and ability to attend community events (days, evenings, weekends) is also important.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of refunding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
