Director, Workday HCM Project Management

Amentum seeks a Director of Workday HCM Project Management , focusing on strategy, implementation support, and ERP optimization.

This position will play a pivotal role in overseeing the gathering and refining of requirements, establishing priorities, and ensuring seamless collaboration between HR stakeholders and IT. The successful candidate will bring deep expertise in Workday, position management, and hire-to-retire processes while balancing project management and business analysis responsibilities. The ideal candidate will excel in process design, project management, and Workday system functionality, driving operational excellence across the organization. This is a HYBRID role; when you are required to work on-site you will report to our Herndon, VA location. This role requires US Citizenship.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Workday HCM Strategy and Optimization:

  • Lead the functional design and implementation of Workday HCM solutions to enhance business processes and IT operations.

  • Work with partners in HR and IT to develop and execute strategies to optimize ERP functionality and ensure data integrity and security across Workday applications.

Project Leadership:

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight to HR IT projects, managing end-to-end project lifecycles, including process design, implementation support, and post-deployment reviews.

  • Implement strategies to optimize project value and benefits realization.

  • Align projects with the overall business strategy and goals. Lead cross-functional project teams to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with HR organizational goals.

  • Monitor projects against strategic objectives, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and targets.

  • Provide mitigation support for risks and issues.

  • Partner with all stakeholders on day-to-day activities related to Workday HCM, such as system configuration, enhancements, and troubleshooting.

Process and System Improvement:

  • Analyze business processes and recommend improvements to maximize system efficiency and user experience.

  • Ensure alignment with industry best practices and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Partner with IT, HR Shared Services, and HR Business Partners to identify requirements and deliver effective Workday solutions.

  • Serve as a liaison between technical and functional teams to translate business needs into technical specifications.

Governance and Compliance:

  • Maintain system security and compliance with relevant regulations, including OFCCP, SOX, and AAP requirements.

  • Monitor data quality and integrity across Workday HCM modules.

  • Continuous Learning and Innovation:

  • Stay current with Workday updates and innovations to identify opportunities for system enhancements.

  • Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.

  • Lead training sessions and provide guidance to stakeholders on Workday functionality and best practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Typically 15 years of experience in HR technology, with at least 5 years of hands-on Workday HCM experience. An emphasis on functional experience is preferred.

  • Position requires US citizenship.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proficient in Workday HCM modules, including Core HR, Compensation, Talent, and Position Management.

  • Strong understanding of ERP systems, IT operations, and data security principles.

  • Experience with Workday implementation lifecycles, system configuration, and optimization.

Skills:

  • Strong project management skills, with experience leading cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.

  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.

Compliance Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as OFCCP, SOX, and AAP.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Workday certifications (HCM, Compensation, Talent, or similar modules).

  • Familiarity with data migration and system integration projects.

  • Experience with Integration Management Office (IMO) activities, particularly in supporting organizational changes, mergers, or acquisitions.

  • Working knowledge of Oracle R12 and PeopleSoft ERP systems, including system integration with Workday.
