Job Summary and Qualifications

The Emergency Services Manager functions as a clinical expert in Emergency Nursing. In conjunction with the Director, supervises and evaluates members of the Emergency Department team. Manages the Emergency Department by assuring that necessary supplies, instrumentation, and equipment is available and maintained. Knowledge, understanding, acceptance, and support of the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the emergency department and the institution as a whole are essential.

What you will do in this role:

  • You will provide oversight for care of all patients on unit, providing support and expertise to staff.

  • You role assesses patient care for staff adherence to quality care policies, procedures and processes.

  • Your role interacts with others utilizing professional and appropriate interpersonal communication skills

  • You will be responsible for workflow of unit by ensuring proper staff levels; adherence to productivity and budget guidelines.

  • You will ensure quality of patient care and assist in patient care as necessary.

  • You will manage staffing needs and personnel management; including interviewing, hiring and orientation of new staff members.

  • You will create an environment and culture that enables the department to fulfill the mission of the hospital and meet or exceed goals.

  • You will collaborate with director in the development and implementation of strategic plan and initiatives and for the financial viability of the department.

  • You will ensure the supply of appropriate resources to support the programs, services, organizational structure and staffing levels necessary for quality services.

  • Your role establishes operations and processes to support, facilitate, and maintain uniform performance of patient care including documentation.

  • You will provide a safe, secure, and infection/hazard-free environment.

  • You will direct the development, implementation, and monitoring of the quality metrics.

  • You will ensure adherence to patient experience and patient satisfaction initiatives and interactions.

  • You will demonstrate ethical standards in customer service through all interactions with the patients, families, co-workers, staff, other hospital departments, physicians, community and others.

  • You will create a high quality, professional clinical environment to facilitate the necessary recruitment and retention of appropriate numbers of qualified staff.

  • You will assist the director to ensure timely assessment of competencies and performance of staff.

  • You will maintain ethical compliance with regulatory/accreditation agencies.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current RN license with an approved compact state.

  • BSN required, MSN preferred

  • Prior experience in emergency nursing required

  • BLS required, MSN Preferred

  • ACLS, PALS, TNCC, ENPC preferred

  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills

  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment

  • Previous management experience is desirable

  • Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology

  • Ability to assess the needs of patients from infancy to the elderly and modify care appropriately
