GENERAL SUMMARY :

Provides direct patient care to patients in assigned areas. Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care related to the patient care unit environment. Ensures patient assignments are based on staff competency and skill sets. Communicates with the multidisciplinary team including physicians, nursing staff, care management, ancillary departments, etc. continuously and as needed about patient condition. Assists with milieu management. Participates in performance improvement activities. Supervises unit nursing staff, assists with staff scheduling. Acts as a mentor and role model to all nursing staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

· Assigns personnel to particular patients and patient care activities according to personnel’s skills and abilities and to equalize workloads.

· Directs and monitors personnel in the performance of patient care activities in order to ensure adequate patient care and quality work.

· Reassigns personnel to different patients or patient care activity if appropriate based upon effective utilization of skills and workload.

· Coordinates authority in deciding when personnel shall be permitted to take breaks and meal periods.

· Enforces policies and procedures

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

· Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.

· A minimum 2 years of nursing and nursing experience

Surgery:

· Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire.

· Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience in an operating room setting (preferred).

· Professional Certification in specialty area by recognized national nursing organization within 1 year of hire (preferred).
